Credit file - mortgage.

I have had hold of my credit file, and after being refused a mortgage by Abbey I have found out my credit score is effected because my brother has defaults and I am an associated person to him because we lived together.
Is there anything I can do about this??
Thanks in advance
Rich.

As long as you have no financial associations it shouldn't really matter. There was a recent fuss about people who live in shared houses etc being affected by people they lived with. This was down to the way information was collected at the reference ages (so I believe) and slipping through lenders credit scoring systems.
Improvements have been made but I suspect that they are not fool proof by any means. If you feel there is nothing adverse on your file then it is worth appealing the decision.
Best of luck0 -
If there has been a formal financial association been reported between you - normally through a joint credit agreement or where you have stood guarantor - the best thing to do would be to add a notice of disassociation on your file.
If you have similar names, initials or dates of birth it may be that the lenders believe you are the same person. In which case a notice of disassociation may help again.
The notice effectively explains that you are no longer financially linked and lenders should ignore his information in the future.
You need to speak with the credit reference agencies to do this - possibly through something like creditexpert.I am an IFA (and boss o' t'swings idst)You should note that this site doesn't check my status as an IFA, so you need to take my word for it.
