Hi Forumites,
You may have seen in last week’s national news headlines a story about a couple who served their entire wedding party (280 people!) their wedding breakfast with help from a charity that redistributes food otherwise destined to be thrown away. All perfectly good stuff! Read more from the charity here: 280 bellies fed at waste food wedding.
Very MoneySaving – and a morally fantastic way to avoid waste! :T
It got us thinking here at MSE Towers – what other things, big or small, can couples do to help make their wedding that little bit more ethical and (hopefully!) in the process, MoneySaving?
From the invites to the day itself… we want to hear your best suggestions to create a smörgåsbord of ideas!
Here’s a few to start you off:
- Recycled paper for invites – or even better, email! There are also plenty of websites now where you can host your details for the day (don’t worry, you can set up a special password for your guests so your ex doesn’t unexpectedly turn up!)
- Ditch the plastic or paper placecards. We love the idea of baking cookies or biscuits for the guests, and writing their name on with icing! That way, you can also combine it with the party favour!
- Or… you could scrap the party favour altogether (very resourceful and MoneySaving) and maybe, if it suits your personality and budget, make a small charity donation on behalf of each guest?
- Transport – can you walk to the venue? Ride a bike? Think outside the box! A coach or arranging a car pool is a great way of transporting guests from a to b.
- Can you hire suits? Or repurpose a used wedding dress?
- Are your flowers seasonal?
Share everything and anything you can think of, and things you’ve bought or used yourself!
We can’t wait to hear your green suggestions – we may even share them in the MSE blog! :money:

Buy bulk packs of reusable metal straws, give each guest one to use on the day and then they can take them home as wedding favours
I got mine at suckerstraws.com - they sell packs of 20 for 18 quid.0
