Chip mark caused by neighbour's car

Hi all -

My car has been chipped by my neighbouring bay's car, I wasn't present at time of incident, however the position of the chip mark is an exact match with the door corner of the neighbour's car. And I was away, so the car has not been anywhere else. So I am 99% sure it was my neighbour.

I have asked the building management for CCTV footage, but I am not sure if it catches the area, I am waiting for their reply.

I have never met the car's owner, and I am thinking of leaving a note. But If s/he denies liability, is it possible for me to claim their insurance?

Thanks.

Without evidence, this is likely to affect you more than the neighbour, I'm afraid as it will go down as an incident that unless it can be proven to be someone else's fault is a 'fault' incident. Personally without the neighbour admitting liability or CCTV evidence or another person witnessing it, I'd put it down to experience.

Some take little care when they ding another car. Is this a new neighbour? Assigned parking space beside you? Likely to happen again I would get a dash cam with parking mode.

You can try a claim but expect it to be rejected as you have no witness/proof

Bear in mind that if you do then the claim/loss will be put on your record and have to be disclosed to your own insurer and others you approach for quotes for years to come even if the claim is rejected!

Is proof that I have been away and car has not moved and that the position of the dent an exact match to neighbor car’s door corner strong enough?

    Nope - merely circumstantial.

No. It's possible evidence but not proof. The other driver could simply deny it.
