New re-mortgage worries

Dear all,
Has anyone heard of a company called Finansec? They are a mortgage broker/financial services provider who contacted me at a trade show I was attending.
I have had one meeting with them and received their Key Facts Illustration and now they have found a new re-mortgage for me and have asked to move this forward to the Agreement in Principal stage.
For this to happen, they have asked for my bank details so that the proposed new lender (Norwich and Peterborough Building Society) can run a credit check on me? Does anyone know if this is usual? Do you need a persons bank details to run a credit check or can it be done using name, address and date of birth etc?
I have not had a new mortgage for a while and to be brutally honest, with all the talk of identity theft and fraud etc, I am a little worried about progressing with these guys. They seem perfectly plausible and have a website which says they are regulated by the FSA etc.
Any thoughts/help anyone can give would be really welcome.
Thanks

For some lenders it is a requirement they have your bank details for an Agreement in Principle. C&G, Nationwide spring to mind. So no, it's not unusual.0

Agreed. Several lenders require either a sort code, or sort code and account number as part of their credit scoring.0
