I've just bought a second home - can i choose which property i register for capital gains??

If the house was sold (exchange of contracts) after 5 April 2020, you have to return the capital gain and pay the tax on your share within 30 days of completion. See https://www.gov.uk/capital-gains-tax/report-and-pay-capital-gains-tax There was a postponement allowed for coronavirus but that has expired.
