Who's responsible?

Looking for some advice....
I purchased a washing machine from a large company and it came with a 5 year guarantee. It broke well within the guarantee period. After a lot of delays it was finally fixed by the third party company. We have been left out of pocket as a result of this and I was wanting to try and claim this back. Who would be responsible, the company we purchased from or the repair company?

Who do you mean by "the third party company"? The manufacturer who provided the guarantee? If so, why are you out of pocket?0

It was purchased from Ikea but the repair was done by a third party outsourced by IKEA.0
-
How have you been left out of pocket? They have used their nominated repair service to repair the machine.
In any case, your contract and consumer rights will be entirely with Ikea, you have no direct link to this repair firm.(Although I could be wrong, I often am.)0 -
I was without a washing machine for 6 weeks, launderettes cost.0

I don't expect that will be covered. No company is going to offer a five year and laundry costs warranty.I was without a washing machine for 6 weeks, launderettes cost.
Any claim you try and make (and I doubt you'll succeed anyway) will have to show that you minimised your costs. Could you have asked a friend or family member to do your laundry, for example? You could have handwashed the items for a short period of time.0 -
We did get some help from family and we did handwash somethings but we are a large family and we were without a washing machine for 6 weeks...0

I would assume the 5 year warranty was to cover repairs on the machine and nothing else, that’s the norm on most warranty’s
If you are claiming costs I would assume you’ve mitigated most costs by hand washing and only claiming for costs of machine wash garments only0 -
And a few decades ago all families large and small managed for a lot longer than that.We did get some help from family and we did handwash somethings but we are a large family and we were without a washing machine for 6 weeks...
Anyway, I think your best bet would be to ask for a goodwill payment from the retailer or manufacturer (depending on how long it was before the machine became faulty), in lieu of the delays (assuming the delays were their fault rather than you not being able to work to their appointments?). What do you think your total out of pocket costs are?0 -
I think you are out of luck, the gtee wont cover having to do washing elsewhere.
you did save on electricity by not using your machine, not much but a little off the costs you incurred
who and what caused the delays0
