Sick note while on hoilday

My mother is having a knee operation, she has been put down as disabled as she can’t walk, she had been told my ocpational health and her doctor that she’s, needs to be on sick. The problem is we go on hoilday in 2 weeks time, to Florida that we have had booked for 2 years and she’s getting a mobility scooter, and she will be staying at villa instead of coming parks most days, will she get fired from work as they said she will be on long term sick from today, she is wondering if she can take hoilday days she’s booked,

Just want some information

No. Being unable to work doesn't mean being unable to go on holiday.
  • Thanks just she got a message from someone at work who said she would get fired if she took hoilday while been on sick
  • Personally, in your Mum's position, I would check with my employer.
  • This is why she was working as she didn’t want to go through all hassle of, going on sick and then having hoilday but ocpinal health come in an seen she could do her job anymore

Were the holiday dates booked off with her employer? If so, there's nothing to worry about.

There would be an issue if she is off sick and decided to book a holiday but not request the dates off, and have them approved, by her employer. That could land her in trouble.

Whilst that is true I would strongly suggest she discusses the situation with the employer to avoid any misunderstanding.

There is the obvious possibility of somebody assuming that if she is well enough to go on a holiday in the USA, she is well enough to be at work! Clearly that is not the case (based on what you have posted) but you can see how easy it would be for the wrong conclusion to be drawn.

I would be very surprised if there was any problem but the employer is entitled to know the full position in advance.

I would check with your employer first. They may have a policy regarding employees who go on holiday whilst off sick. In some cases depending upon your employer's HR policy, you may need permission prior to going on holiday.
