Bauer Media Competition T&Cs

I hope I'm posting this in the right section.. So I happened to click on the full terms and conditions for Bauer Media competitions and I stumbled on this section which I've never seen before:

4.10 Manipulation of services

We are committed to operating our Competitions fairly and transparently and preventing any abuse of our Competitions and systems.

For this reason we reserve the right to disqualify and/or discount entries if we have reasonable grounds to suspect, in our sole discretion, having regard to all the circumstances and information available at the relevant time, any of the following:

activity has occurred that is designed to excessively manipulate the Competition; or

entries have been made in breach of the General Terms or Specific Terms; or

there has been any activity which we consider is designed to unfairly influence the Competition and/or provide an unfair advantage to the entrant including without limitation use of automated or semi-automated technology; or the making or disguising of multiple entries by an individual entrant using multiple different phone numbers (or other details on which limits on number of entries are based), false names, addresses or any other information.

Unless otherwise permitted pursuant to the applicable Specific Terms or unless it is an Online Giveaway Competition, if we have reason to believe that an individual entrant to our Competitions has made multiple entries using different phone numbers, names, email addresses, or social media pages (or other details on which limits on number of entries are based) from any one entry platform then we will treat this as an attempt to unfairly influence the Competition and all entries submitted by that entrant will be void.

The reason why this struck me is because sometimes I submit entries consecutively for me and my boyfriend... does that result in instant disqualification? I'm unsure whether this applies to online entry competitions or not, I'd like to be clear so I don't waste time and ruin my chances.
I'd appreciate some thoughts on this :o

Apart from anything else you are generally not allowed to enter on behalf of another person.
  • I understand.. but even if me and my bf entered using the same computer, would that implicate my entry in accordance to these terms?

These terms seem fairly new so from now on, I guess I'll have to be extra careful so my entries don't get discounted

Does anyone know if two people enter from the same house but on different computers if that would look like the same person please?

The IP address would probably be the same but the port number might be different in the packet, depends on how Network Address Translation is set up between source and destination. I wouldn't think this would be something that would normally be examined, at the most it would be the IP address, so two devices going through the same broadband box would most likely have the same IP address as far as the destination is concerned.

Don't know if this is how they would judge multiple entries or not.

Using two different computers wouldn't make a difference I'm afraid. The reason Bauer might think its the same person entering using two different names and mobile numbers is that the entries can be identified by the unique IP (internet protocol) address given to you by your internet provider (ie TalkTalk, Sky, BT etc).

My opinion is that this is aimed more at many multiple entries (perhaps from a "pay to enter" site") from one source rather than a couple of people using the same computer.

The general T&Cs for Global Radio comps specifically mention multiple entries from the same IP address:
You may not use multiple devices (e.g. mobile phones) to enter any Promotion either as an individual or as a group or syndicate. We will disqualify any entries which, in our reasonable opinion, appear to have used any of these entry methods - this may include entries from the same IP address, telephone number, or similar.
but the key phrase is perhaps 'may include' - as mjm3346 suggests, it might depend on how many entries have been submitted. Two entries in different names could be deemed acceptable; 20 entries would most likely be excluded. We'll never know for certain how it's applied, so it's down to individual judgement whether to risk it (likewise to guess whether Bauer operate similar rules).

I just phoned up Bauer and the answer is that the rule is not one win per household it is only the winner who is barred . She told me my husband can enter and would not be excluded .

If the win is £500 or more the T&Cs (which would apply) seem quite clear
no person or persons at the same residential address may win more than one prize valued at £500 or more via any of our Competitions in any given six (6) month period

Well that puts the cat among the pigeons .

There was no doubt this was not what I was told perhaps someone else would care to phone them .
    I found the bit
    4.11
     Prize Limits

The prize is as specified in the Specific Terms. Unless otherwise stated in the Specific Terms, each entrant is limited to winning one prize per Competition. There is no limit on the value of a single prize that may be provided to the individual winners of a Competition. However, no person or persons at the same residential address may win more than one prize valued at £500 or more via any of our Competitions in any given six (6) month period.
