*** THIS THREAD IS A YEAR OLD ***Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.0

OP, I would approach in from 2 directions:
1. - Sit down and discuss with your Wife, and think about making plan to move jobs, perhaps in another 6-12 months. It sounds as though you should b able to find a new job if you take a pay cut to around £110K, so look at drawing up a budget for that level of income, and look at your current financial position and spending as a family, to work out where you can make savings.
IF you have any debt, other than your mortgage, prioritize clearing / reducing that, and, then look at building up 'cushion of savings - maybe if you plan on moving jobs in 12 months time, think about moving to live on a lower budget in 6 months time - that way, you have 6 months to acclimatize to the lower income, while putting the difference aside into savings, which would make it less of a shock when you do change jobs, and also means that at that point you will have a bit of a safety net.
In the mean time, think about the aspects of your job which you do enjoy, and what you have enjoyed in the past. Presumably you are at a fairly high level so should have some scope for being able to make changes to your role to include some elements which you enjoy - I doubt you would be able to completely lose all the boring parts, but if you are able to have even one project or area of work you find stimulating and interesting, it would make it easier to cope with the less interesting parts.
Be honest with yourself about what you may find elsewhere. Most jobs have boring elements, so do think about whether you would actually be better elsewhere (once the initial settling in is over - learning new things means the start of a new jb is much less likely to be boring, short term, but may be just as dull once you get settled!)
Think about what you are doing outside work. Is it possible that part of your feelings of boredom are to do having less time and an energy to do 'fun' stuff, because you now have children? Think about whether you and your wife can make time / money available for you both to have some fun - separately or together - look at hobbies, getting sitters so you can go out together and enjoy yourselves, those sorts of things.
Good luckAll posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)0 -

mp80 said:Hi,
I've been working for the same co for the past 8, and made it onto the executive board (300+ headcount, multiple offices)
I am mostly bored to tears with what I am doing but I feel trapped due to the high salary and benefits I recieve (140k + bonus + share options in the parent plc, etc, 6 months notice etc)
It's soul destroying. I suffer from mild bi-polar (cyclothymia) so aware mood has an effect but the "happy gap" is getting shorter and shorter every time. I've lost interest in the company which will no doubt be affecting them as well as the teams of employees which I've spent a long time building up and have a lot of respect for.
However, my wife is against any moves right now and thinks I should stick it out, she's not working at the moment due to 2nd newborn & mat leave. I appreciate that as we have one salary and have financial commitments. Other jobs at the same level/location etc are hard to come by so likely to be a drop of some significance.
Has anyone else been in this predicament, and how did you deal with it? Even in the short term??
Just wanted to say that I get it.0
