O/S Daily Wednesday 14 August 2019
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need one, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Cloudy dull cool start to the day, rain forecast for today - so as it' so dark and dreary expecting that to start any time.
DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and ok.
Dinner last night was a new recipe, chicken, bacon and potato pie - it was lovely and was enjoyed by us all - although it takes a while to prep and cook, so not ideal for a work night - or the prep needs doing in advance - I did peel the potatoes and leave them in a bowl of cold water. I remembered to get the pork out to defrost overnight so we'll be having pork loins, mash, veg, yorkshires and gravy tonight.
Yesterday work was either dead or manic, we'll see how today pans out, but my last working day this week, until I go back on Monday.
Keep safe and well x

Morning all, a cool grey day here and the forecast is not great so pleased that I got the washing done and dry yesterday.
I went back to the dentist - my dentist wasn't working yesterday so saw another one. He said let it settle for a couple of days now and come back and see my dentist on Thursday. He was not sure that the root could be saved. In addition to the actual tooth, I think my dentist may have disturbed something in my sinus just above the root. When I left the surgery on Monday, I started sneezing fit to beat the band, that's carried on intermittently but I have a more ir less constant drip from that nostril now. Sorry, tmi I know. So the saga continues and I continue to look like a witch or possibly someone who has been in a fight as there is also some bruising.
Anyway I'm not going anywhere today and hope nobody comes to the door as I'm not fit to be seen.
Yet another me me me post, I know there are far worse things.
I hope others are having a better week than me!I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Miserable day here and for most of us by the sound of the forecast. Rain, rain and more rain.
AOD I was hoping we would have had news of a better outcome from the dental visit. GERS I hope DM perks up a bit today after her day of rest yesterday. Sounds like she tackled too much on Monday.
Not the best of days for it, but it's bus trip day today. All 3 of us this time so we will have a quick committee meeting on where to go when we meet in the bus station in town. Of course lunch will be involved but, sadly, no wine for me as the doctor stressed yesterday I had to avoid alcohol on these new painkillers! Still that's a small price to pay if they actually help my painful legs. Fingers crossed.
So not much in the way of cooking to do today. I have a couple of sad looking bananas in the bowl so I think I might make a banana pancake for breakfast, topped with a dollop of yogurt and some berries. I'll leave a pouch of soup defrosting to have with a sandwich for late tea when I start to feel peckish.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely amongst us. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning folks.
Dull and damp here, think it's set for the day. I have no plans other than to go for a walk at some point if the rain isn't too heavy.
There's plenty in the fridge so that's sorted.
Thoughts to all the poorly people. Happy Wednesday to all.0 -
Morning All
Damp and dreary outside this morning. There were heavy showers yesterday but it cleared up enough for me to cut the grass last night and the washing dried eventually although it did have a couple of outside rinses!
I picked a bagful of beans from the allotment yesterday along with a couple of courgettes - one of them is more like a marrow, I must have missed it the other day. Also went for a much needed haircut.
Today is the last day of the summer holiday, back to work tomorrow although the children don't come in until Monday. Must find my work mugs and give them a rinse.
Not sure what today has in store, nothing planned and the weather is miserable.
Have a good Wednesday, take care. XX0 -
Good morning all
Thank you for starting us off nmlc
Had one of those days yesterday when nothing seemed to go well. I seem quite emotional at the moment so that didn't help.
Gave a fridge away on freecycle but they didn't collect
Shop I went to wasn't open
I was going to book National coach tickets, need a bit of help for DH, told I couldn't get journey/travel assist if I didn't have Disabled discount card,is that right? Would like help at London Victoria.
Thoughts are with all those finding life difficult, and with our absent friendsIf you walk at night no-one will see you cry.0 -
Good morning everyone,
I went to boxing last night only to see the light out and door locked. Strange. They use Facebook to post updates and don't have it so I may have missed something. Decided to go to the gym instead for an hour. Home to chill for a bit, ready my book then bed.
When the alarm went off at 5.15am this morning, I wasn't feeling too clever. More tired than usual with a slight headache. My body urged me to go back to the comfort of bed for a few more minutes, which I did. Next thing I know it was 7am. Fine by me. Yoga at lunch for a quick hour then I'll perhaps squeeze in another quick hour this evening after work.
AoD - Aw that doesn't sound quite as positive. Let's hope it doesn't give you much bother over the next couple of days then.0 -
Morning all
Rain rain and more rain here today I am due to meet a friend for a walk and a quick stop at the pub afterwards, I may cancel as I dont like walking in the rain at the best of times it will be miserable, might suggest the pub after work one evening instead.
I have the dentist this morning just for a check up and I dont think anything needs doing, I wanted to see the hygienist but its £66 pounds now so I said no its a silly amount for one visit ! the dentist will already be about £50 for a check up !
Got mozzarella stuffed meatballs for dinner tonight from my magic diet book all low fat and low calorie will do some spaghetti with it, a perfect meat for a day like this .
Going to make the plum gin today as I ran out of time yesterday I did stew half of the plums and froze them for winter but still half to do, I kept the liquid from the stewing and reduced it down to make a thick syrup will use it as a base for the gin.
AOD it sounds like she has disturbed something in your sinus area, I do hope she can put it right !
TA I hope the pills start to work for you xx
Have good days all xx0 -
Good morning everyone :hello:
It's damp and dreary here too this morning. I woke up a few times in the night and heard the rain lashing down each time but it's just a drizzle for now. I gave up on bed and came down at 4am and then promptly fell asleep sitting up on the sofa till 7am.
Just made myself some cheese on toast with a bit of Worcestershire sauce and it was delicious. It's going to be a bit of a cheesy day as I am planning on sausages and macaroni cheese for dinner, yum!
All the kids are fast asleep still, Phoebe had the day off yesterday as she is full of cold but she is going in today as it is only a 5 hour shift this evening. Lilly got shouted at again as she didn't come home from a night out on Monday with her friends. Apparently her phone didn't have any battery life to let me know she was staying over and neither did any of her friends :mad::mad:
We ordered Lee's uniform for his catering course yesterday. It is tricky as obviously he wants the male uniform but he doesn't have a male body so we have had to guess at a few sizes, especially shirts. Why on earth do men's shirts go by collar size? I had to order a bigger size than he is to accommodate his chest, I just hope he doesn't look like Harry Hill :rotfl::rotfl:.
Jemima and the grandchildren are coming to see us today which will be lovely. Jemima's husband is moaning again all over Facebook about her snoring keeping him awake. ...not that he ever does anything annoying I'm sure. I wish he wouldn't post stuff like that although everyone knows he complains about everything and a lot of my family have turned off his notifications now as they are so sick of it. I get that snoring can be horrendous for the person listening to it night after night but she is trying everything to stop it.
Well, that's all from me for now. Hope you all have a great day despite the weather, take care xx0 -
Morning all! Lovely and wet here today, the kind of rain that soaks you through in seconds.
Have done the rounds of phoning this morning and have also phoned an electrician as my earth wife was cut from the house by opportunists seeking to sell the copper. Not just.my house though, the entire street. I can't imagine a foot long piece of wire is going to amount to much money so they.must have done quite a few streets.
Too wet to strim so I'm the house waiting for visiting times with my bag off goodies ready...
Have plans to make some kind of spinach and chicken pie or sauce or something thanks to the freezer...
Dumpling, I think people have no idea what Facebook actually does anymore because it really isn't the place to air grievances of any sort. My oh's father does things like that...it's very annoying. Hope the tablets work for you TA. Gers, enjoy your day. Sorry I can't help SO, maybe try the travelling forum? Speky, hope yoga sorts you outAOD, hope your tooth holds until you get properly seen...
Wotcha missings....

Afternoon all. Late one from me as we have been for DH's MRI scan. We had to be there for 9.45 so we booked our local taxi. We got there quite early but you never can tell with the traffic. Afterwards we had a sorely needed coffee and DH had a slice of tiffin.
We caught the bus into Cabot Circus and had lunch Then had a wander round the shops then came home. We know how to live!
It's raining again here but we got home in the dry.
Well I'll love you and leave you. Hugs and spoons all round.
