Nurse / Midwife registration

I wonder if anybody can answer this question which seems beyond the Nursing and Midwifery Council's helpline!
I am currently helping a friend who is considering making a complaint about a person working in a medical related (but not legally regulated) field. They are a member of one of the professional bodies which has disciplinary procedures but no statutory powers.
That person claims to have been a midwife before retraining for their current occupation. There are reasons why that would give additional credibility in their current role. We would like to establish if that claim is true and, if so, whether they were subject to any professional sanctions or even struck off perhaps leading to the career change. If the individual was still practising as a midwife this would be public information.
It is not an uncommon name and searching on the NMC's registration database gives a number of "hits" including one listed as "non practising" but none seem likely to be the person concerned. It is also possible they may have married or otherwise changed their name.
The NMC helpline seemed very unsure if it remained public information should somebody have opted to come off the register. They would only tell me to make a freedom of information request which is obviously nonsense!
Any knowledge would be much appreciated.

Indeed but that is not my question. They are certainly not working as a midwife at the moment (unless they are moonlighting with two jobs)!
What I am trying to establish if this person ever was a midwife and if so, whether they were ever subject to any NMC sanction (or even struck off).0 -
Have you tried a search on Google?0

The professional body may have more success than you as they can ask for certificates etc.0
