O/S Daily Tuesday 13 August 2019
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need one, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Cloudy dull start to the day, dry underfoot and I did manage to get a line of washing line dried yesterday, that won't be attempted today - rain is forecast later.
DH and DS1 now getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and ok.
Dinner last night was fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg, I had baked fish. I remembered to get the chicken out to defrost last night, so that's safely in the fridge - tonight I'm trying a new recipe of chicken, bacon and potato pie - not a pie as in traditional pie - the potatoes are sliced and make the topping instead of a pastry lid - we'll see how it goes - it's not loads of work to to when I get in but enough for an after work dinner, so of it I'm hoping to get some done before I leave for work this morning (ie peel the potatoes). I'll serve it with veg and gravy. Today is my short day at work and this week I'm at the local office not the other one, so I'll get away from work at a reasonable time.
Yesterday work was either dead or manic - so we'll see what happens today.
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Yum your pie sounds tasty.
Looks like we have had a bit of rain through the night but it didn't wake me so can't have been heavy. We now have sun forecast for the rest of the day - before the rain is back tomorrow! Where is all this rain coming from!
Lovely lunch out with my friend yesterday. The lasagne, salad and garlic bread was still on special, so much enjoyed by both of us.
Flying visit this morning as I have an early doctor's appointment. My legs are so painful now when I am walking that I think there is more going on than dodgy hips and knees. Of course, as is par for the course for me, I am fearing the worst.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all in need and a wave to our absent friends. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning folks.
TA - I really hope that your fears are unfounded.
Yesterday I was so happy when DM did some small kitchen duties! Hope springs eternal.
My day will be spent in a little shopping trip and waiting for the delivery of the new vacuum. Exciting stuff. :rotfl:
The order day two of my Aussie nephews FaceTimed me for a chat. It was semi-lovely as they were fairly well oiled. One was celebrating his birthday and the other was doing a farewell tour before moving to Seoul. My SisIL was there too, she was less oiled!
My thoughts to all the poor lies. Happy Tuesday to everyone.0 -
Good morning and thank you for starting the thread nmlc.
I have had a strange few days. Some might recall that I have a dental abcess and was given antibiotics, well those didn't work. I spent quite a bit if the weekend clutching my face and by yesterday morning it felt dreadful so I managed to get an emergency appointment at the dentist. The abcess was behind/above a crown so she drilled in and drained it (not going into detail, horrid) patched it up and I went on my way. I think something in my sinuses got a bit unsettled because I sneezed and sneezed, then my nose started running and my face was too numb to tell so that must have looked really good while I was shopping.
Came home with a quick detour for a cup of tea with a friend. Then the entire crown fell out while I was eating a piece of bread which us hardly a challenging eat.
I'm now waiting for the dentist to open and I am expecting to be offered another emergency appointment like yesterday but no idea what will happen. I have a gap now, right at the front, if I'm asked to do any work I can hardly conduct meetings looking like a witch or medieval peasant.
Sorry this is all me me me!
Welcome back Speky, hello everyone else, I'll shut up now.
Hope everyone has a good dayI was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning All
Well done your DM Gers!
Hope the docs appt is OK TA.
Oh dear AOD, let's hope you get an appt.
DD and I had a good shopping trip yesterday, she's slow but determined! We got everything on her list so I think she's just about ready now. We had a lovely lunch at a vegan place, I had a falafel salad which was lovely and fresh, will definitely go again.
Haircut for me today but that's about it. Happy Tuesday, take care. XX0 -
Good morning everyone,
Despite it being wet, it's still quite warm. I woke during the night with the sound of the rain battering off the window, which, coincidentally, is a sound which makes me drift off to sleep.
Yesterday, as I predicted, was routine. I nipped to the SM plus popped some air in my tyre, which I think is suffering from a slow puncture. Then went to yoga and was home for 9.30, where I quickly made my lunches for the remainder of the week; mozzarella chicken with steamed broccoli.
Been at the gym this morning again and I've agreed to join my mate to go to a boxing class tonight. Half looking forward to it, half dreading it, as I felt sick the last time I went. I'll tell myself that it must be doing me good. Bank and YNAB are all back in line after the activities from last week. Little bit tighter on cash for the remainder of the month but I should manage.
TA - Good luck
AoD - I do remember actually. That's a poor show from the dentist. I would like to think that they'll finally remedy it at third time of asking.0 -
Morning all
Its raining here but meant to brighten up mid morning, I hope so or it will be a very soggy dog walk later !!
Ikea went well yesterday and I didn't spend too much they did not have the blinds I went for so need to get them from somewhere else.
Today I need to deal with the plums, going to stew half and put in the freezer for winter and make half into plum gin, I will need to pop to the shop for some gin and some veg for tonights dinner, Im going to do a roast chicken as we have not had a roast for ages and its cool enough to have one.
Will have a quick tidy through and then a film and feet up this afternoon, my feet do feel a lot better for not being on them all day so its obviously that that aggravates them.
AOD ouch I hope you can get it sorted today.
TA hope you get some answers too xx
Right better get on have good days all xx0 -
Dentist at 2.
Washing on the line, another lot in the machine, bed to strip and remake, think that will be all I do today.
Am getting hungry now, tine for toast to be eaten on other side of mouth.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning all,
Thanks nmlc- pie sounds good
Oh dear AOD that sounds painful- hope they sort it out properly today.
TA,glad you had a lovely day and the painful legs get sorted.
Gers, chuckling at the well oiled call
RR you'll just have to keep putting your feet up then
Camelot, lovely buying stuff for a new baby
Speky,my son goes to a boxing gym,in fits and starts when his knee isnt playing up.He says it's very hard work
Aforementioned DS2 arrived back yesterday from the 'Dads & Kids' camping trip in the Lakes and a good time was had by all - rain didnt stop play too much at all. Lots of soggy stuff still lying around, the washer has been on overtime!
Lovely visit yesterday from my DN and her 2 boys, the baby is coming on a treat and trying to crawl.I put Ly1a upstairs, she can get giddy when visitors come and I didnt want her treading on baby
I dont think I'm going out today although we have some sun which makes a lovely change - I predict a day of ironing as it's cooler today. I need to get some breadmaking done too.
Hope you lovelies have a good day x:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. (Eleanor Roosevelt)0 -
I am back from the doctors and whilst she agrees my hips and knees are arthritic she says they shouldn't be causing the pain I describe. After much poking, prodding, checking pulses in feet etc and not finding anything untoward she says she will refer me to the hospital - and due to cut backs it could be a couple of months! She obviously doesn't feel my demise is imminent then!! Meanwhile she has prescribed me some stronger painkillers to keep me hobbling along!
AOD hope the dentist finally gets you sorted this afternoon. GERS there's nothing like a well oiled conversation to cheer you up! RR make the best of your week off and get your feet up as much as you can.
Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning all. Sunny here but a bit cooler. I have a load of washing in. I am trying to decide what to pack for our holiday on Friday. I may have to sort out some long sleeved tops! We are going to Dawlish Warren for a week with DD and dgs. Not too far from Bristol.
Tonight DS is popping in for another meal and sleepover. He is home for a bit of a rest I think as a lot of the time he lives with his girlfriend and her mum and dad. Sausages, cauliflower and broccoli cheese and jacket potatoes will be served.
Not a lot else happening today. I have some ironing to do and a bit of shopping to as I wasn't expecting DS for a meal. DH and I are trying to empty the fridge before we go away.
Aod hope the dentist can sort you out today. Specky I am glad you enjoyed yout holiday. Gers glad Mum feels up to pottering in the kitchen. TA the lasagne sounds lovely.
Well have a good day folks. Hugs and spoons all round.
