If you don't inform the pension service?

Quick question. What happens if a person goes abroad while claiming a pension for 6+ months at a time, but fails to inform the pension service that they have been abroad? Could there be issues to face after this?

As long as their tax residence remains the UK that's OK.

If more than six months will be in the same non-UK jurisdiction then tax residence might change and a tax return might be needed in the foreign country even if it doesn't.

You may well need to read up on the Statutory Residence Test to determine what to do.

If the pension is the state pension it's possible that if the time is in places not entitled to inflation increases there might be fraudulent claiming. I'm not familiar with the detailed rules and don't know whether they follow tax residence.
