I think I’ve got all the big bits packed, its now just all the little fiddly bits that I need in the next week. I think. I’m feeling more relaxed after the weekend when I got a big chunk done, but I wish I could just skip forward 7 days and be in the unpacking phase. The dog has been especially unsettled this week. I wonder if he knows what box packing means? Or if tis jsut the change thats unsettling him?

I’m trying to pack and I keep finding remnants of my Brexit stash. The thing is I’ve eaten a lot of the food now so most of what’s left is about 2 years worth of period products…. mind you, in 2 years I’ll be saying this about my winter paranoia kit. Hopefully.

When I cancelled YNAB I discovered I actually have longer than I realised left on my subscription, I forgot when I referred a friend and they signed up, I got an extra month as a referral bonus. This means we don’t HAVE to have a budget session on move in day if we dont have spoons.

(Still a good shout to do it asap, we just have more than 4 days if needed)

    ~*~

One thing I’m waiting to see how shakes out is the month ahead concept. My housemate is newer to YNAB and hasn’t got a month ahead yet. I have. It might just be a case of seeing how it shakes out when we get there, I was hoping to use my PIP backpay to ensure we were a month ahead but then the govt messed up my housemates benefits (along with everything else they’ve been messing up lately). There’s lots of ways it could go, kind of have to wait and see.

    ~*~

As a fun little side note, I found out my phone no longer receives security updates due to being so old! Adding that to the “after the move” list. (Its final update was Sept 22 though, so it’s really recent, I’ve got time) (And in all fairness my phone came out in April 2017 so it is kinda old in phone terms)

    ~*~

Conveinetly timed for us, YNAB has announced they’re releasing YNAB Together!

“A YNAB user can invite up to five members to join their YNAB Together group where they can share budgets and take on their dreams, all for the price of a single subscription”

I believe its going to roll out over the next couple of weeks, at least according to a Reddit post.

    On 31st October 2022:

My Bank Accounts Net Worth was £13,675.96

£1,817.69 was in my “Next Month Income” category, some of this is left voer PIP backpay. It’ll go pretty fast on some last minute moving expenses.

£3,182.53 was in my “Emergency Fund” category

£3.215.13 was my H2B ISA (House deposit, though I’ve got a secondary category I’m trying to save a little more for the house deposit in by the end of the year)

£896.57 was in my “Next Laptop” category

£812.01 was in my “Next Phone” category

£798.47 was in my “Gym” category, I’ve been able to get my monthly fee reduced since having PIP!

£549.37 was in my “Next Move” category

£500 was in my “Canal Boat” category

And then the rest is in smaller categories

    Banking Net Worth October 2022

My Investing & Pension Net Worth is £13,961.06

£13,450.54 of that is in my work pension. In my previous job I was (that is, from my March Paycheque) contributing 8% and my employer was contributing 12.5%. I haven’t had the information for my new job yet, but I’ll deal with it after the move.

£474.70 is in my bank’s Investment service, I put £25 a month in there and some fund managers do hopefully smart things with it.

£4.19 is in my Freetrade Account, where I like to pretend I know how to day trade. I dont contribute to this on a regular schedule, and in fact I took out most of the money recently for moving expenses.

£11.55 is in my Paypal Crypto account, where I like to pretend I know how Bitcoin works. I dont contribute to this on a regular schedule, but so far I’ve put £15 in so I am making a loss at this point.

£20.08 is in a Crowdcube account. This doesn’t seem to change in value so I think it was more of a GoFundMe rather than an Investment.

I haven’t had been tracking data long to do much of a graph for Investment Net Worth, but here we are

    Back to packing I guess!

Normally on the 1st of the month I talk about which categories I’ve decided to underfunding or overfund. Suffice to say any spare funds, and then some, go into my “Next Move” category. I’m going to have a big shake up of the budget in the next fortnight anyway, this week and next week won’t be typical weeks.

I am already feeling burnt out and ready to crash, got a few days left yet

I dont know if I’m doom scrolling or not, but here’s some more on potential blackouts

It’s not just me with the winter paranoia kits though

Maybe Black Out Box is a better name…

  • I would suggest maybe don't doom scroll so much. When it comes right down to it, worry about the things you can control. Keep you and your loved ones safe and warm, and let the doom pass you by. We've had fuel problems in this country before and I'm sure we will again. It gives you interesting things to remember once it is all over.

  • Just a mini update as I am still wiped from the move, and busy unpacking boxes. Everything is everywhere and nothign is accessible haha… but we’re making progress. We’ve done our first budget together as well, which I will go over here at a later point but I am beyond tired.

    ~*~

So the laptop was a causalty of the move. It’s gone to the big recycling centre in the sky.

I had been saving up for a while, so its not a crisis. I wanted a bit more time, but I had enough saved to get a gaming laptop. I had £924 saved up, and I found one – with a bit of guidance from the nominated tech guy of the family – for £999 that I hope can cope with my over 30 sims expansion packs, sigh. I did have to poach the savings category I had for a new travel rucksack, so I’ll just to cope with my current one for another year.

Hopefully this marks the end of my laptop troubles for a good few years.

    ~*~

Its been an expensive week for me. I noted before that my phone no longer recieves security updates, so I decided I wanted to get a S22 Ultra. It only came out in February this year so should be supported for a WHILE.

I have £840 saved up, I would need to buy a phone case too so I’m saying I can put down £800 upfront.

My phone network is 02 so I looked there first. I was happy with thier prices for the device, but it kept trying to force me onto a higher priced airtime plan for the same amount of data I was already getting. It wouldn’t let me buy the device without a new sim contract. I talked them instore and over the phone and they weren’t budging. I asked them if I put the sim in a device I bought elsewhere would it affect my contract, and it wouldn’t. I found the phone at currys for £200 cheaper (£950) and interest free if I pay it off in 9 months (remember I have £800 I can pay off same day).

Because Currys thing is a finance plan I technically have to apply for it, so I’m waiting on an answer for that, but I guess 02 just lost themself a sale and I saved myself £200. Also the 02 contract was 12 months, whereas I can pay it off in 9 at currys. Probably under 6 months tbh. And then because it’ll be paid off sooner I have that much longer to save up, and I can probably just buy the device outright next time.

    ~*~

Also I am eligible for the coronavirus vaccine again. I guess because of my EDS? But I’ve got that tomorrrow.

    Anyway. Back to unpacking.

I am too tired to give this as much effort as I’d like but I know its been a minute since I updated.

If laptop and phone could **not** coordinate next time that’d be great…

Also I’m not sure I’ll ever get over the weirdness of YNAB. I can drop £1,800 on tech without concern, because I saved up for it, whilst also debating whether to get a haircut this month or wait until the monthly roll over.

    ~*~

It has been a busy week. The flat was all lovely when we viewed it but before we moved in they developed a leak. The leak itself is fixed, but the insulation got soaked and is now seeping water into the walls. We even had a bit of mould. Great start.

We finally got the letterbox key for the new flat, but none of our mail is in there, including the new dog tag, bank statements, letters from benefits…

On top of that, both my housemate and I have had flare ups in our various medical conditions.

And then also the dog had a medical emergency. I wont share too much on here because frankly some of its gross, but I came home and just… blood. He’s getting better now. He has about 7 different pills to take though, anti-inflammatorys and anti-biotics.

    Christmas shopping has begun.
