Sounds like you are doing well.
I love ynab, it saw us through my husbands year of unemployment when I was working two jobs trying to pay the mortgage and everything else!!! However it isn't for everyone, there is a couple of fbook groups where you can ask questions, a general one and a UK specific one. Also I just used YouTube videos to figure it out, loads of people rave about the ones on there done by Nick True. If you want the names of the fbook groups feel free to drop me a pm. And I also love the large bank balance lol! I have gone from having pennies in their on payday, to running a balance of at least 2k. All accounted for, but it's there, and earning interest!Debt free Feb 2021 🎉0

well done - great progress. I'll pop in now and again.
I find posting daily keeps me honest, but I've been quite busy so they have been dull as ditchwater

Yeah I have the Santander 123 so I get 1.5% up to £20k... in the long run if YNAB works out for me I should close some savings accounts and move it all into the one account to earn the most interest. But I want to see how I get on with YNAB first before I commit that much.well done - great progress. I'll pop in now and again.

I know what you mean - but i havent had much to post! It's the week before payday so funds are running a little low, though not gone entirely, and I'm just staring at the YNAB screen, eager for next payday so that I can practice divving up money.
I've noticed I've been spending less and less lately, which seems good on the surface but makes me a little nervous. I've never been good and the rice and beans thing, I tend to react by having a spending splurge. Right now I'm not spending the money I've allocated myself, that I'm "allowed" to spend. For example, today its Sunday and I have £10 left to spend. So part of me is like "well, I dont want to feel deprived. Go spend £2 on a cake at the supermarket." But then the other part is me like " that's £2 more we could be paying off our CC debt!" Which is an admirable attitude but even if I dont buy this laptop this debt will take at least a year, probably longer, to pay off at the current rate. And I do need a new laptop. Maybe YNAB will speed things up a bit but this is still a long haul game and I cant do rice and beans that long. But for the first time in my life my frugal side has both hands firmly on the wheel and I dont know how to react or how to persuade them to calm down.
Part of what I want to know and YNAB will help with is - if I have this spare tenner in my account, what did I understand on? And, if a different category overspend, where is that money coming from? I haven't had much experience with that yet as I've only had YNAB three days but I got a glimpse of it a few days ago. My Argos card sometimes takes the minimum payment DD, sometimes doesn't. I dont know why, I always overpay, and I always pay on the same day each month, but sometimes it takes the minimum payment and sometimes not. Anyway, it took a fiver this month. Pre-YNAB I would have just been all "well, I guess I have £5 less groceries to spend this week" in order to try save the money left in my account for other things. But, thanks to YNAB, I was able to take the money from a different, less important, category. It seems small. And, for a fiver, I suppose it is. But it was a glimpse of things to come.Follow my Budgeting Journey at Life After Debt!

I have tried YNAB, and I don't get it, and I have complicated arrangements. I'm happier with excel - although I may be poorer. I did try again last week, and it just blew my mind again. I don't like software that is bossy, I like software that is enabling
I was looking at Monzo - as I like the idea of pots within pots, but the last thing I need is another bank account - I'm trying to get down to one joint account and one CC (mainly for work) until then I wish you luckI think I saw you in an ice cream parlour

So, payday. Ironically I actually had a little less in my account at the end of this pay-month than I did last pay-month, but only by about £20. Also, I knew what purpose the money had and where it came from rather than just being spare money without a home and of uncertain origin.
I feel good about the way I divided up the money (I did it over breakfast). It was really quick and easy, more so than I expected, just clicking down the list going fund fund fund. Most of my categories have goals so I could put the correct amount of money in with two clicks. The exception to that, for this month only, being my savings goals - simply because when I set up YNAB I had to put my starting balance in so it thinks i already funded my savings goals this month. That wont happen next month.
In good(?) news, I put the first amount of money aside to save towards my divorce. It's good that its finally occurring to me to save for it. It'll be good when it's all over.
I changed the DD for my red card twice this month, so I'm not sure which amount will apply next time the money goes out. I'm not sure if the second change was done in time to apply this month. So I've over funded that category to the higher amount for one month and if the lower amount goes out I can reallocate the money.
I'm trying to be less anxious about the credit cards. They're handled and on track. I'll pay off two by the new year. The other... is a long game no matter how I cut it so as long as I'm putting a good chunk to it each month (after I pay off the other two) and it stays on the 0% rate I'm trying not to worry.Follow my Budgeting Journey at Life After Debt!

I forgot to say - I even managed to budget £25 in the "stuff I forgot to budget for" category!
I'm debating what to do with any "spare" cash YNAB finds for me. Right now I'm inclined towards putting it in my Laptop Fund. The other option would be to pay it onto my black card. It's sort of a moot point as when I buy the Laptop on my black card I will immediately empty the Laptop Fund onto my black card, rather than paying lots of little extra CC payments I'm just paying one larger CC payment in a few months time, but I think mentally it'll be better for me to make one large hit rather than trying to chip away at the balance. The end result will be the same, it's the mental stuff I'm thinking of. It'll also make it good practice with moving and saving money on YNAB.
I need to go grocery shopping tomorrow evening. I'm down to my last batched meal, which I'm saving for work tomorrow. I cant go shopping tonight because I'm meeting some friends, I have enough in the cupboards to scrape together a meal for tonight - either nuggets and beans, or pasta and jar sauce. We'll see. I just dont know what to cook.Follow my Budgeting Journey at Life After Debt!

I think I'll have to, but that's just not how I've been working it up until now... but I did quietly say to myself, anytime I found something I forgot to budget for, I just add a category. How much should clothes be? £15pm? I honestly do not buy many clothes. Like every third month I'll replace one thing.Follow my Budgeting Journey at Life After Debt!
