Do you not get all your money at start of month then? Just do what works for you tbh.

No I get paid on the 19th and budget then, when I get a month ahead I'll be able to budget on the 1st.

  • So do you run your month from 19th to 19th then on ynab? Or do you run it from 1st to 1st and just top up pots when you get paid?

I run it from 19th to 19th, which YNAB doesnt like very much, so my next goal after I hit 3k E-Fund is to get a month ahead so I can run it 1st to 1st

  • Yes it doesn't seem to work well with anything other than getting money on the 1st of month. I get paid last working day of month so its easy to run it from 1st to 1st.

Unfortunately I cant stretch mine that long, as in previous years I put all my direct debits between the 19th and 1st, immediately after payday!
Never mind, now my Divorce fund has hit its goal that's £75pm I can redirect to other goals

  • Just keep plugging away at it and eventually you'll get in the position that you'll be able to do it.

Currently my E Fund is at 2,300
Next month I'll put in 115 (15 more than this month) bringing it to 2,415
Next month I'll use the freed up Divorce fund contributions to finish topping up some secondary goals, freeing up that money too.
Every month after that I can put a total of 215 into my E Fund, meaning I  will hit my E Fund goal in... May...?
And then after that I can start on my month ahead.
This is of course assuming my year goes entirely to plan. What is it they say about the best laid plans of Mice and Men...?

  • Yes sadly it does seem to be the case that something often goes wrong when least expected.

Haven't had much to report the last fortnight, just been ticking along. I saw a facebook post discussing YNAB vocabulary and one of them was "YNAB Bored" - The simultaneously satisfying and devastating feeling when there's a whirlwind of activity at the beginning or end of the month and then pretty much nothing to do in the budget for another 27-30 days.  Feeling that right now! I know there was a month rollover but my payday is approx the 19th so I dont do anything different on the 1st. Well, I update my Excel spreadsheet and admire my homemade Net Worth chart (goes back further than my YNAB budget does). But that's it.

I did apply for that internal vacancy, and I had a phone screen yesterday, like a mini pre-interview. I messed up one question a little, but not so badly that that alone would have discounted me - but if they already had concerns... I technically fall just shy of the requirements and it's a pretty big relocation within the UK. They did say that IF they made an offer it would be contingent on me passing R02 module pretty quickly. But theres another round of interviews in a bit. He didnt give me a time frame for when the interviews are as the job is still technically open, but I'll get about a weeks warning for the interview, as one part is a role play and they give a case study in advance to prepare for.

I spoke too soon... got a call this evening and they turned me down for the internal role :/

I got good feedback, they actually complimented the screening call, but I need that R02. Just got to get to it.

Taking an evening to be sad though. I really wanted that one.

Got simple, clear, actionable feedback though. That's good.
