O/S Daily Monday 12 August 2019
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need one, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Cloudy dull start to the day here, dry underfoot and forecast is dry - I have a basket of wet washing to put out with the hope it dries - as the next few days look a bit unsettled with plenty of rain forecast.
DH gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and ok.
Yesterday lunch was egg, bacon, sausage, LO new pots (which I fried), mushrooms and beans. Tonight dinner will be scampi, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg, I'll have baked fish.
Back to work today, we have been busier than we thought, so have no idea what today will bring.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning everyone :hello:
Thank you nmlc for starting us off this morning xx
It's raining again so poor Steve and Phoebe will be wet getting into work. It is too windy for an umbrella as well. Definitely a day to stay home and catch up on some chores.
I am going to go and peel some potatoes in a minute ready to mash for the shepherds pie I will make for dinner. I like to do stuff first thing in the morning while I still have some energy. I may also make a bread and butter pudding as it is one of Steve's favourites. I also want to go through my 'tins' cupboard as it is chockablock and desperately needs organising properly. That will keep me busy for a while so I will put on some music to help.
The nurse is coming today to dress my poor sore legs so that will bring some relief I hope. I don't think I have any other visitors today so this afternoon I will crack on with my cross stitch.
Hope you all have a great day despite the weather. Take care xx0 -
Good morning and thank you for starting today's thread nmlc.
Happy Anniversary for yesterday to Snoozer and Steve.
Hope everyone has a good dayI was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. It sounds like we are the lucky ones this morning - we have sun! And no rain forecast all day! But how the temps have dropped - a high of 15 deg is the best we can expect. Have we seen the end of summer?
The bedding and other washing I had to drape over the airers in the back bedroom yesterday, when rain stopped play, feels dry this morning so I will gather that up next. I hate drying indoors, you don't get that nice fresh smell to it.
It's my Tuesday coffee and lunch meet up this morning - yes I know it's Monday but my friend can't make it tomorrow so we've brought it forward a day! I am hoping the lasagne will still be on the Specials Board as it was so good. I left a mug of my celery soup in the fridge to have with a sandwich for later when I start to feel peckish. So a no cooking day for me.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely and all our absent friends. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Good morning everyone and happy Monday.
Back to reality today after my 9 days off. My first week was spent in Aviemore with the family with the feet up half the time and the other half was walking the dogs around the Cairngorm mountains. Lovely. My other few days were then spent staying at my mums and catching up with friends, to then catch my return train yesterday afternoon. Batteries are well and truly recharged and I am - strangely - looking forward to get back to work and into a routine again.
Gym this morning with yoga later tonight. Need to pop into the SM and petrol station later, too.
Dumpling - Hope you feel some relief soon
TA - Enjoy your lasagne!0 -
Morning folks.
WB Speky.
TA - are you going to have the soup? My DM's moving out neighbour brought her some homemade nettle soup yesterday. He picked the nettles from the park across the road  It's very thin and unappetising looking.
This morning the gas engineer is coming to service the boiler and the window cleaner is due too. This afternoon I'm going to meet some friends who are driving through Glasgow on their journey north. We'll have a brief half hour together which will cheer me up.
In anticipation of DM's cleaner being off for eight weeks (she's having a foot operation) I've orderd a Gtech for here. The cylinder vacuum that DM has is very good but it's bad for my back, knee and hip so it's going into semi-retirement. I only ordered it yesterday afternoon so was surprised to get a text saying it was coming today, I've put the delivery back to tomorrow so I can still see my friends.
Things are OK here, could be better though equally things could be worse too. :rotfl:
My thoughts are with the poorlies - happy Monday to all.0 -
Morning all
Dry here for now but rain due any time and meant to last all day and its so much cooler I can feel a change in the weather the last few days, summer cant be over already Ive not had my holiday yet !!
Off this week and I do need to recharge my batteries so looking forward to a week off, today though I am off to ikea with my dd I have a few things to get and we both love a browse round there and Im sure will get lots of things that are not on the list but are essential !
Dinner tonight will be a jacket spud as I wont feel like cooking much when I get in so will just shove some spuds in.
Tomorrow I have no plans which is lovely so I will get up and do a quick clean round take the dog out for her walk and then flop on the sofa for the afternoon, I fully intend having a few lazy days ir afternoons this week.
We picked the plums off of our tree yesterday we got 7kg !! which is amazing as I planted the tree myself about five or six years ago and up to now we have had three of four plums each year so we got a bumper crop this year !! I need to process them at some point, im going to freeze some and make some plum gin !
Snoozer Happy Anniversary for yesterday xx
Have good days all xx0 -
Morning All
Happy Anniversary for yesterday Snoozer, what a lovely bouquet you must have.
How are you MM? Hope you're feeling brighter.
Enjoy your week off RR and well done on the plums!
Yesterdays weather was awful, steady rain all day. I met my friend and we had a lovely cooked breakfast, didn't eat anything else all day.
The weather today looks promising, I'm meeting DD today for a trip to Costco then for baby blankets. I ordered sheets, etc online on Saturday and they arrived yesterday. I accidentally ordered 2 pram mattresses so they are packed back up ready to be returned.
Glad you had a good holiday Speky, sounds just right for recharging the batteries.
Have a happy Monday, take care. XX0 -
Morning all,
Rain again, feels like it hasnt stopped for days. DH has gone to work but he may be back as there isn't too much he can do in this weather. DS and the grandchildren are due back later. from their camping trip in the Lakes. I've just had a look at some pics one of his friends put up on FB and looks like they've had a good time.Apparently if you want a signal you have to go to the pub
I've been trying to have a good sort out while it's been quiet & sent some bin bags twith DH to put in the skip he has at work.Every little helps. My niece has just text, she's going to bring the boys over once the baby has had his nap so that'll be nice.
I think the rain has eased so I'll do a quick dogwalk.I've got some pork steaks out for tea, probably cook them in the Instant pot. Hope the new dressings help your legs dumpling.
Welcome back Speky sounds like you had a great break.
Have a good day all x:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. (Eleanor Roosevelt)0 -
Morning! No immediate side effects from infusion apart from bad back this morning, but that may be down to how I slept, so I'll hang fire before I do anything today.
Bloody cat! I heard him playing with something saturday night in the passage and thought ok, he's amused, everything's fine. Went out to make a cup of tea and saw he was playing with a tiny bird [ possibly a sparrow?] so I took it off him, put it in a basket with a cover on and left it to recuperate before I put itout in the morning. Said to OH when he came home, don't forget to shut the door to the living room so he can't get to it. OK he says...He then falls asleep on the sofa and forgets to shut the door before coming to bed. I wake up in the morning, come down, and there's nothing left of the bird bar three feathers and a bit of sternum. I was not best pleased at all. With either of them. Poor bird, I'm hoping it died of shock before the cat got to it a second time...
DId nothing yesterday bar the infusion, watched a film when I got home. I was nostalgic for Sundays where you used to clean in the morning, make Sunday Dinner, eat it and watch a film in the afternoon..thanks for that redruby
No plans today except wait and see if anything transpires. Will go back to Wales if everything is hunky. Will take my strimmer with me too to tackle the garden monstrosity. Will also take some tools as I tried to open the shed and was prevented by the secondary lock falling out so I can't open the shed door without some persuasion....In the form of a crowbar.
redruby, plum gin, nom nom! I used to collect the wild ones where I lived before, made a lovely, if fiddly , jam...I have a plum tree on my list of things to go into the garden, along with a quince and a mulberry. TA, hope you get your lasagna..Speky, good to hear you all revved up and ready to go! Happy Anniversary for yesterday snoozer!
Wotcha missings, hope you're doing as OK as you can...
Muddy Monday!Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -
Evening!
My day was as planned apart from the bout of torrential rain on my way back from meeting my friends.
Meanwhile, DM made herself a cup of tea and some toast!! The Zimmer has a kind of bucket attachment with a lid - the lid has an indent to hold a cup upright so it was safe. As was she. :j:j Baby steps though a long way from May / June time.
I hope that everyone is safe and well.0
