Sciatica woes

Hi all,
I've been suffering on and off with my back ever since having my daughter 9years ago. But this week's bout has been slightly different and I've since been diagnosed with Sciatica by my GP. I'm on a lovely mix of codiene, paracetamol and naproxen which have began to take away (or certainly mask) the pain.
But my problem now is my left leg is partially numb, as is my left foot. I'm getting multiple spasms in leg muscles across the day (but unable to actually feel these due to the cocktail of meds) which is making my leg hard to walk upon. It's numb all down the back and into my foot. I'm also currently walking in a funny position too (think walker off the Walking Dead :rotfl: )
Google tells me this is relatively normal, is it correct? Asking fellow sufferers before I go back to the doctor's and look like a numpty.
Thanks in advance x

It is normal, but is isn't good and you need to be doing exercises / physio else it could lead to permanent numbness and other issues.
Please go back to your GP

Google Yantra mat...
These work on pressure points,
One of my facet joints in my back was inflamed for 2 years and gradually settled down but i got so much relief from lying on my mat a few times a daymake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Sorry I should have added, I have self referred to physio. It'll take upto 3 weeks to get an appointment but in the meantime my GP has recommended gentle Pilate exercises which I intend to start once Amazon delivers the mat I've ordered!MovingForwards wrote: »It is normal, but is isn't good and you need to be doing exercises / physio else it could lead to permanent numbness and other issues.

Oh thanks, I'll look into one of these. I've ordered a Pilates mat, but will look at this too.0 -
I have had Sciatica on and off for last six years...had the cocktail you mention along with some weird capsules gabapentin for nerve pain, always starts in left hip or thigh and effects that left side downwards, plus I look lob sided one side is 3 inches shorter than the other.
Last time two years ago I was sent to back clinic and to be honest think it is just time and light exercise really and after it clears walking and swimming always help me.....as for the cramp well mine was inside top leg and it was one recurring cramp after another, what helped me was V8 juice drink, even now there is an unopened carton in cupboard, I read on an american site that potasium helped with leg cramps, can't tolerate bananas so started eating pumpkin seed and then saw V8 juice wine glass full helped, so that what I keep in....do hope it settles down it's a nasty thing that really can take a hold.0
