It's something I have always wanted to do. The full diploma costs about £325. But I will see where I end up in Jan and have a better think about it then.

Don't know if this would be on the right lines, but how about a dvd rental subscription. Amazon have one at £3.99 a month for 2 dvd's a month, one at a time. You could run it for how ever long you wanted. Sitting and watching a good film will take you to other worlds and be time spent chilling out/relaxing and not worrying about things.

    Best wishes

  • I joined a book group which is on MEETUP.COM
It doesn't cost anything, there are a lot of groups on there and it's great.

I've been thinking of doing the free trails through Quidco, I guess that would be very MSE!

    Thanks for the suggestions x

  • Instead of presents for christmas could you get people to donate to the "diploma fund" not as good as chocolate but better than socks although will last a lot longer and not undo your fab party season challenge acheivement! There's something to smile about :)
Why didn't someone kick me up the backside earlier:mad:

Hi Lucy, I would definitely echo the netball idea - i used to love playing lacrosse at school and joined a club a year or so ago when feeling really low. Its great - I get to mess around outside and make friends, I ended up going to Prague with them recently!

I can also echo the Egyptology thing, great idea - my degree was in Egyptology and its brilliant. Whereabouts is the home study diploma from??
  • Is it worth making a list of things that you liked to do before and maybe things that you have always wanted to do but never got round to it?

  • I suspect that there is a direct link between being a DFW & depression...I know that much of my debt was directly linked to being stressed & depressed and my life has changed beyond recognition since then! My starting point was getting an allotment! I absolutely LOVE it for the excercise (even though I have a bad back - you need to pace yourself!), meeting people, nurturing something (even if the wabbits do like a munch!) & generally just loving being in the sunshine, muddy & happy as a pig in s***! Never thought I would & only just wish my lovely granny was here to share it cos she's have been dead chuffed that I now love gardening too!
I have also recently just joined the Womens running network - heres w eee linky to your local one

but they are run all over the country. I'm starting to love it & you can start quicte cheaply - I just got full kit for 25 (jjb sports) and you can always get running shoes online or off ebay if you go & love it! Basic principle is that you never run on your own, they support you in starting (ie I am on a minute walk, minute run at the mo!) and its just girlies! Worth a go & mine hasnt made me join until Jan to check whether I like it & prices then go down to £10 for membership!
I think part of dealing with it is getting out a bit whiatever way you do this! While MSE is great it can get all consuming & unhealthy so I think its a good idea to go out and do something! I also joined a bookgroup but did mine via gumtree...HTH? Big hugs & great advice from councellor BTW!

    Hi Lucy

I had depression a few years ago when things were getting me down at work and my life was made a misery and life just wasnt good at all. The way i got out of it was spending a lot time around my friends and family, not really doing anything but the company did take my mind of things. My depression wasnt diagnosed b y a doctor though....

Have you tried going for walks and maybe swimming? Its very healthy for you and autumn walks are great as long as it isnt peeing it down :p
