I phoned for another appointment and despite phoning the. minute the lines opened, found myself 14th in the queue. When I got to the front, I was offered an appointment same day with a senior nurse practitioner, "who can treat your blood pressure". When I presented myself, she denied knowing anything about blood pressure and said I had only been sent to her because they had run out of appointments for the day....,

Frustrating to say the least and of course it shouldn't happen.

However, from a practical point of view, did she not have the option of booking you a prompt GP appointment as it was something she was unable to treat?

Failing that grounds for a complaint but even that won't actually solve the problem.....

Why not try the walk in clinic? There's only one near to me as well, had to wait a couple of hours, but the treatment was excellent.

I don't for a moment expect my own GP to remember anything at all about me. He would have to quickly scan recent notes on screen and taken with what I tell him would make a decision. It doesn't matter who the alternative is, I'd have seen them to get this progressed.

My mother has an unshakeable belief that her GP knows her full life story, (as if!!) but it's all on the screen and the GP has a quick read through key points while waiting for her to walk along the corridor. The surgery is a bit like a mini hospital, with loads of doctors, nurses and other health care professionals.

Mine is rural, one GP, a range of visiting and peripatetic other professionals and I can ring up for an appointment and they tell me to pop down in a few minutes. Never had to wait more than a day. As has been said, the practice nurse is often far more clued up than a GP, and if when she sees you, she thinks you need help from the GP, she pops along the corridor and asks him to drop by her room.

So depressing to hear about the different experiences around the country.
