LCS Credit Management

Has anyone ever heard of LCS Credit Management?

I have received a letter from them demanding settlement for a debt from 2015 which isn't UK relevant. It isn't even EU relevant, it's from the UAE. I have no issue paying this debt as an when I'm in the position to do so, but not right now.

Firstly, what is this all about and is it legally enforceable? I don't owe them any money in the UK.
Can they mark it on my credit file?
Can they use the courts to enforce a debt on behalf of a UAE bank?

I'd argue the amount is subject to a certain amount of contention as they are looking to recover in GBP, which has hiked the debt significantly as it was taken out in AED when the rate was around 6:1 and now it's 4.5:1.

Any advice appreciated.

Regards,

Debts from abroad cannot usually be enforced in the UK.

They can write and ask you to pay, but they cannot apply anything to your credit file, or use the UK court system, unless a recipricol agreement is in place.

The only other way it might become enforcable over here is if the creditor sold the debt to a UK debt purchasor, they would then chase you over here, assuming they can trace you, then normal UK debt collection rules would apply, however, this kind of thing is very rare, and it would have to be quite a substancial amount of money to make it worth everyones trouble.

You might find this thread useful. It doesn't seem to be as easy to avoid overseas debt as is often assumed.

The statute barring times are also different apparently, with it being 10 years in UAE.
  • Lsc said they were going to carry out a uk asset investigation to find out what could be used as security in the event of any legal proceedings. Can they do this? Wheat kind if a check us this?? All i own is a car which i bought outright. They did their client is still happy to reach a " fair reasonable and affordable resolution".
