OH has a problem with using windows photo's . You click on the box on the screen, up pop's the black box for 5 seconds then it goes. Whilst we can access the pics through file explorer we have no means of viewing them properly. Any suggestions? She used to have PhotoGallery but that disappeared when it went to a repair shop for another problem. As photo gallery is not still available for win 10 we can't now access that.

https://www.thewindowsclub.com/download-windows-live-essentials-windows-10 to regain Photo Gallery.
The other option is to do a repair install to fix whatever problem you have now or take the opportunity to fit an SSD and run a clean install of Windows .0 -
must be something to do with photo gallery being uninstalled. is photos pointing at the correct source folders? you can check in settings"The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson0

What happens when you right click on the photo, choose 'Open with' and then select a suitable program from the options shown(Photos, in this case). Does it open?
