Disguising a hole

I mean a very small hole in a top that has hardly been worn. Plus it is exactly the right colour to go with an expensive skirt.

It’s in an obvious place so, although mendable, will be unsightly. I don’t think I’m neat enough to disguise it with a bit of applique, but I think a few sequins or little beads might do it. Any other suggestions? And if I go for sequins/beads where on earth do I get them, don’t need many ...

Ebay and Amazon do sequins and beads or any good haberdashery, even places like John Lewis.

A simpler solution might be to mend the hole as best you can and put a brooch over the mend . It depends where the hole is really.

Mmmm, a brooch. Hadn't thought of that. I do have a nice brooch, but the position is a bit odd, so will have to try it on to see how it looks.

With these, you don't just have to cover the hole (which may look odd, depending on where it is) but could do, say, a trail of butterflies or flowers or stars across the top.
  • If you'd rather see what you're getting, Hobbycraft are a chain with a decent selection, or google Haberdashery shops - there are still a few!
  • The fabric of your top might not suitable as you didn't say what material or colour your top is but one thing I've used before is Korbond Iron-On Mender. You can buy it in places like Boyes or Wilkos, sewing shops, supermarkets etc.

It comes in different colours, simply cut out whatever shape you need to cover the hole, turn your top inside out and then iron the piece onto and over the hole. By ironing it onto the reverse of the fabric there is no 'patch' to be seen.

Ta, but I think that kind of mending tape will be too thick for the fabric, though I am reminded that I need to get some anyway to mend a jacket.

Are there no places near you that do invisible mending?

Mr Suki bought a very expensive shirt for (RRP £150 ) for just £5 because it had a small tear, £5 for the invisible mend - result :)

If you incorporate the hole into the middle of a design it won't be that noticeable- I mean something like an assymetrical curve, swirl, spray design rather than a few sequins beads sewn just over the hole.
Generally roughly a diagonal looks good.
Another possibility is to use 3D fabric paint- again swirl, curve etc.
