When can you submit a written statement of events?

Good morning,
I have just completed my bankruptcy application form, which I found to be very straight forward :-)
I was however, expecting to find a statement section where I could write a timeline of events that has lead me to apply for bankruptcy, but there was no such place for this. Will I be able to email the OR with this kind of statement before the telephone interview, just so they have a better understanding of my situation?
Any info off you guys would be greatly appreciated!

You kinda don't... To be honest, the OR isn't really interested in that - they just want the financial facts. During the interview the OR might ask a few questions about transactions that look unusual or if its obvious there are problems with gambling etc they might take a closer look but 'having your say' is not part of the process. If it was - they'd be subject to all sorts of c@ck and bull stories. You'd be surprised what an experienced OR can work out from just looking at the figures.0

Sorry to disagree with The Gardener but one of the OR’s roles is absolutely to understand the cause of your insolvency. Otherwise how would they work out if further investigation is required?
You might, for example, have become insolvent by taking out a loan for £20k and taken your family on holiday to Disneyland. On the face of it, this would be a bankruptcy offence.
However, if you had taken out a loan for £20k and taken your family on holiday to Disneyland because you were giving a terminally ill child a last holiday, then this would mitigate against the offence and it’s highly unlikely you would be investigated.
Context is everything. OP, you get to explain what has happened at your interview. You won’t need to submit a statement.0 -
You give a little explanation to the OR at the telephone interview. I expect most people's reason is 'spent too much and earned too little' however the OR will be interested to hear why e.g. own business went under, lost job, divorce, addicted to buying things, gambling, health issues, investment went wrong etc.
The BR application is quite simply you declaring that, right now, you are insolvent and wish to use the legal mechanism of bankruptcy to remove these debts. For the purpose of the application, only the numbers matter.0 -
I did mine in 2012 when there was a hand written section at the end to explain how I got there and I could explain my circumstances reaching to the application.
If this section is no longer there The examiner will go through it and ask any questions relevant ...just make a few notes to prepare for the interview.
Mine was face to face so I cannot help further but just be honest and open and you will be fine.
Let us know how it goes.0 -
I did have one case where the person had written such detailed reasons, that I didn't feel the need to do a telephone interview.0
