O/S Daily Thursday 1 August 2019
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Light cloud and sun trying to make an appearance, dry underfoot.
DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here.
Last night dinner was roast chicken portions, HG new potatoes, LO cauli/broc cheese, green beans, swede, LO yorkshires and gravy. Tonight I'm not sure but possibly egg, bacon, sausage, mushrooms, fried new potatoes and beans.
I'm now on days' off although I'm working Saturday morning, so all the normal "to do" list to work through. I'll be heading to town first thing.
Keep safe and well x

Specky have a great holiday with your family xx

Have good days all xx0 -
Happy Yorkshire Day folks. The sun is shining but of course it won't last - rain is due this afternoon! Thanks for starting NMLC.
We had a pleasant day out yesterday in Skipton and dodged the only heavy shower by browsing the House of F sale. I spotted one or two nice bits to add to my birthday/Christmas present stash. The market was in full swing and the poor forecast hadn't deterred any stallholders from setting up. Had a lovely lunch of chicken, mushroom and cheese pasta in Wildwood and shared a bottle of wine. Never eaten there before but definitely will again.
DD and the girls are due back from the 'van today as DD is working tomorrow and the w/e. They are here for tea and sleepover so the usual Bolognese is on the go for the customary Pasta Bake.
Not much is needed in the way of shopping today, what with eating out so much and no hungry hordes to feed, so just a quick top up shop of f & v and dairy will do this week I think.
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) to all in need of them. TAFF I hope your dad had a better day yesterday. Take care all and a wave to absent friends xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning folks.
The forecasted heavy rain yesterday didn't arrive. There was a bout of rolling thunder though it seemed a long way off. Today is dark and steamy again.
This morning the cleaner is coming, once she's gone I'll go out for a while. I've got the self referral form for social work completed so I'll deliver it to the office which is quite close by.
Taff - thinking of you and your father. As you've always told me, look after yourself too!
The veggie soup I made yesterday was nice if chunky. DM prefers a chunky soup whilst I like a smooth one. Next time I'll split some off to blend.
Right, time to stir myself. Thought to all those struggling, happy Thursday to all.0 -
Good morning, it's cloudy here, can't believe the difference from last week.
Yesterday was cloudy, no rain though, there were evn a few glimpses of the sun.
We went to DD's and it was nice to see them, the children are blooming, and dgd wanted us to take her for her swimming lesson so we did that. We were going to stay with the little one while DD took her, but it made no difference to us.
Last night I gave the cupboard doors in the kitchen a much needed clean, then did the tiles, By then it was 8.45, so I've left the floor till this morning. I've got quite a large kitchen so it took a while.
Not much happening today, just "stuff" as DD calls it, More cleaning and tidying (why is there so much? We must be a mucky, messy pair)
Sorry to hear your Dad is not well Taff. Hope he improves.
Glad you had a good day out yesterday TA, hope the family have enjoyed their caravan break.
Thinking of those who are struggling with life, the sad and poorly and their carers.
Take care folks xx0 -
Morning all
Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need.
We moved yesterday, only a short distance to somewhere better for Beano to walk. Today I need to collect Steve's prescription, it should take half an hour but usually takes most of the day due to various mistakes made every time.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Good morning, thank you for starting today's thread nmlc.
Speky, have a great holiday.
Taff, sorry to hear that your dad is so unwell.
I'm really tired now, had to get up at 1 due to intense cramp in my leg, better now but still sore. I'm going back to bed.
Hope everyone has as good a day as possible.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning! Thanks for the good wisbes,he is a bit better today, angling physical ailments tend to make people grumpy, and yesterday he was feeling it more than normal. It's really soul destroying to see him getting thinner and thinned. I weigh more than he does...
Today is same as, but I'll be going out in a bit to get various things. OH will be here in case of chucking on flood incidents...
My friend is over from Spain for a few days so am trying to fit in seeing her too.
On the plus side I can probably set up shop as an antique dealer the amount of foot it's and similar I've seen...
Yes Gers, I am trying but honestly, it's going to have to take a back seat for a bit. Do as I say etc . Hopefully you'll get your respite.....TA, enjoy your family! AOD, I find a get a lot of cramp in the night if I dont drink enough. Good luck with the scripts Hester...
Wotcha peoples not posting, hope you're all doing as well as you can.
Topcat Thursday!Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -
Good morning everyone :hello:
Sorry to have been absent but I have been so miserable that I couldn't bear to post. Joys of the menopause I think, just when I think I am getting a break, Mother Nature comes along and kicks me. Anyway, the hormone highway has settled today so I feel a bit more like myself.
We have the pleasure of our grandchildren for the day as their mum is working. Need to keep them occupied until truculent teen arises from her pit. Phoebe has gone off to work already and Lee is getting ready to go to the gym so it's lucky Lilly who will be helping to babysit.
It's going to be spaghetti with bacon and spinach for dinner providing I can find the spinach. It's in one of the freezers so will send one of the kids to look for it.
Brain is still not working properly so I will send out a load of hugs and cwtches to anyone who would like one today. Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Hi all,it's quiet here today .DGS has just been picked up by his Mum & Stepdad. He does make me laugh & it's nice for me to spend some one to one time with him when I get chance, and DGD too.
We had some torrential rain yesterday, there has been flooding in some areas, fortunately not on our road.I had a lovely lunch with my cousins, including 1 who rarely joins us. The place we met is near a fishing lodge down a steep hill & water was pouring down.I had to get changed when I got home,I got so wet just walking to the car and that was with a brolly.
Out again later with DH,catching the train into M/cr.I think our friends are coming too,in which case we'll get a lift to and from the station. We'll probably go to Pizzaexpress before the gig.My social whirl week continues tomorrow when I see a group of old school friends
Loaf in the bm,and one yesterday but nearly had a bread crisis on Tues as I couldnt time it right with going out.I dont like leaving it in the bm,it tends to go a bit soggy.Luckily we scraped by as I'd ordered some barms with my sm delivery. I think I'll just leave some pasties out for DS teas. One of DS2s mate's house was broken into last night, he thinks to steal the keys to the BMW parked outside his house. They certainly didnt get any keys as unfortunately for the thieves it wasn't his car ! I don't think they took anything else but he needs a new front door
Anyway,I hope this finds you all as well as you can be x:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. (Eleanor Roosevelt)0 -
The rain only came in three short hard bouts, just as I was out! Think the rain devil was watching for me. :rotfl:
I've handed in the social work self referral form, on the way home I went looking for an Italian deli which I'd been told about. Found it and a parking space. What a delightful place it was, I bought a couple of main courses and puddings.
DM has spent a good part of the day dressed sitting in the living room, she's just retired back to bed. I'm happy as she took a small bull by the horns to declutter some stuff from the kitchen. The recycling bag is now full.
I'm now waiting for an evening delivery from A mazon, another book in the Jackson Lamb series for DM. She's really enjoying them.
I hope everyone is having a good evening.0
