  • Today's Observer has a supplement Baking with Kids (DH said he thought they'd be a bit chewy, but I gave him the hard stare  ). Some good recipes in there, including pastry, biscuits, cakes, icings.

The pastry recipe from the Guardian using cream cheese was very yummy. I still have half of it in the fridge. Will it freeze unrolled or do I need to roll it out first? Or have I left it too long now? I made it yesterday teatime.

  • You can freeze it in a block or rolled out. It should be fine to freeze today - did you keep it in the fridge?

  • However, what made me laugh - have you all checked that your wooden spoons are from a sustainable source? Mine are all so old I don't think sustainable was a concept when they were made! - and then there is no mention of using fairtrade sugar - although everything else is designed to make you guilt ridden.

That made me laugh too - what are we meant to do if - horror:eek: they are not from a sustainable source ? Chuck them out and buy new, sustainably sourced ones ? Or does the writer think we buy new wooden spoon each time we bake ?

Have just now settled down with Saturday's Guardian, and it's a brilliant little book. Glad to hear the banana butterscotch cake was such a success:A

I made the 'easiest cake in the world' last night - but I burnt it :rotfl:

It's really nice though (if you don't eat the outside of it!)

I'm just about to decide what to make next (whilst looking stylish in my cow print apron :D)
