How local do you live to work? If near enough, I'd go home, do other jobs, shopping etc. in that time.
If not you're just going to kicking around for 2 hours, which I'd be upset about too.
If they insist on pursuing this, I'd be looking for another job asap.
The OP is being required to take two hours in total, not a two-hour lunch break necessarily. It could be half-an-hour mid-morning, one hour at lunch and another half-an-hour in the afternoon.
Certainly don't do any work during those breaks, make yourself unavailable to them during that time. Check what other activities you can do that you would otherwise do at home, learn a new skill perhaps.0 -
As a few of you are affected it might be an idea to get together and negotiate, as a group, with your employer (I'm assuming you are a non-unionised work force, given you have not answered that question) and suggest a change which might be more acceptable e.g. different start/finish times so that, overall, you are covering the 'opening times' but not having these longer breaks.

Sounds legal because they aren't reducing your working hours either by the sound of it. It would be different if you normally worked 40 hours and the change meant you were now working 35 depending on your contract as it would be a reduction in work hours but essentially I can't find anything legally, that they can't stop it happening.
The only thing really you can do, is collab together (even through a union) and put a formal complaint in that you are unhappy about it and hope they see the light...because I highly doubt anyone will be happy about it and will start seeking a job elsewhere. Perhaps this should be pointed out to them?People don't know what they want until you show them.0
