I'd just let them know as soon as possible - even before you start. I did this with a job I just started where I forgot to mention time I'd booked off during the interview - so much going on in my head that I just didn't think about it until I was on my way home. I did raise it about a week after I was offered the job and again just before I started (because it was one week into the start date - I might not have got in there so quickly if it had been Christmas/New Year).

    All was fine.

The initial reaction of the employer is likely to be one of not believing that the holiday was booked before the interview, so having evidence to show the booking date will certainly be beneficial. Second reaction is likely to be frustration that you didn't tell them at the time.
Hopefully they will still feel that you are the best person for the job despite this.

I would say that the company also failed at interview, as every interview I've done as candidate or interviewee has had a question about holiday commitments.
  • Bet your employer will be gutted they weren't as savvy as mine .. first 6 months absolutely no notice to be given on their side.

Imagine you'll be fine though, I can remember a post not so long back from someone who reckoned a month into the job they were able to book leave for their very second month of employment.

...I also remember working for a courier company when Christmas was a banned time for booking leave and they managed to take someone on who had Christmas booked in the June-time.

I can understand why you didn't mention it at interview. It seems a bit previous to me to be mentioning prebooked holidays before the interviewers have even had a chance to discuss the candidates and make a decision.

I would ring them and explain. I may be lucky but everywhere I've ever worked except for one place (office based) has shut for the entire Christmas period so this would not have been an issue. I did go for a new position last year and was aware of a holiday I had booked that would have been only around 2 months after start. I was prepared to perhaps have to cancel the holiday and put it down to one of those things. I didn't get the job as it happened so, again, think I would have seemed a bit sure of myself to have mentioned it in the interview.

Good luck hope it works out!
