I think a couple of recent posters are going rather over the top here in defence of the hospital.

Yes, we all know the NHS is over stretched and under resourced but that doesn't make them immune from administrative errors. Nor does it mean the organisation is always as efficient as possible.

We simply don't know, and probably never will know, what was the actual true cause of these five cancellations (so far). Maybe this was despite incredible dedicated people doing all that was humanly possible or maybe it was poor administration? Who knows?

Because appointments are made for the next one for a few months later or a year later.

They do put leave requests in plenty of time but you can’t expect them know what holidays they want two years later.

Doctors are allowed time off like you and me.

Also doctors have a set schedule during the week. Many complain that they have to wait a long time to see them or for surgery/ that’s because they have set schedule. Days when they do clinics, says when they do surgery and days when they do admin work.

They can only book people into clinics on clinic days.

Also sometimes consultants change what type of clinics they do so that all needs sorting out.

Some leave, some fall pregnant and some fall sick as well.

    They are human

I'll have a refund for all the money I've paid in tax which contributes to the NHS, then, please. And money I've paid for prescriptions, dental fees and money I've spent at the opticians. Thanks

    No its not!

It may be "free" at the point of use but all tax and NI payers are, in effect, paying insurance premiums against needing medical treatment. In fact many are paying more than their share as they are also contributing to the "premiums" of those unable to pay.

So there is no more (or less) reason why poor service should be tolerated, any more than it would be from private medical insurance.

I do agree that if the poor service is due to a lack of resources then the proper culprit is successive governments. However, if it is due to local management issues then any complaint should indeed be directed at the hospital.

Saying thr NHS is free at the point of use is like saying my Sky telly, my mobile phone, my Internet, my life insurance, my house insurance etc is all free at the point of use, as I pay all that in advance.
Even the food in my fridge is free at the point of use, as I paid for it when I went shopping rather than when I'm eating it

You are costing the system way more than you put it. You're in the black on this one, relax :)

So there is no more (or less) reason why poor service should be tolerated, any more than it would be from private medical insurance. - By all means go use a private firm. You'll still be waiting and you'll still be seen by the same NHS doctors

Yes because the way to ensure extra resources is to complain about the service, so more resources are put in to handling the complaint.

Yes, most people do cost "the system" more than they contribute - hence the ever growing national debt. However that is totally out of any one individual's control. As a law abiding tax payer I / we / you pay what the government demands of us with no direct option of opting out of certain parts.

So you would accept any level of service, however poor, without complaining? Really?

Well, if I'm costing the system more than I put in, the system is definitely screwed, as I rarely use it

Yep! And I'd ditto that for council tax (even with the single occupancy discount).
