Virgin Media Credit Check

Morning all,
I started to get the ball rolling with our current broadband provider (NowTV) only for them to say they don’t support fibre in the area we are moving to and will have to downgrade to the lowest package.
Anyway I have cancelled NowTV as I can get Virgin fibre at the same price. I went through the process of purchasing last night but bailed last minute as it said in bold writing: credit check required.
We’re completing two weeks today but also require internet from the 12th as I work from home (3G signal for tethering is awful in the new house). Would a utility contact mess up a purchase, is it best to just wait?
Thanks

I want to say wait but find it difficult to believe that a credit check from a utility supplier might derail a mortgage. Having said that, no one really knows how these computer-says-no things work.
Maybe drop a note to your broker to see what they say?Morning all,

I can see no reason why this can be a problem. You are nit taking ion a new borrowing.0

If you work from home I am assuming you're taking out a business account with VM rather than a residential account?0 -
Simple.
No applications for new credit from agreement in principle upto completion.
Call me over-cautious but this won't do your mortgage application any good; but it might do unintended harm. Avoid it if you can.I am a mortgage broker. Found myself in a similar situation and going with virgin media.
I'm the sole mortgage application so in the fortunate position that the virgin credit check could go through hubbys name. They were fairly quick in giving us a date to install though, could you hang off til completion and hope you get a quick turnaround in the installation?0 -
Per their T's and C's of using their resedential BB services:
8. Internet access is for private use by you and members of your household. It must not be used for any activities not reasonably expected of someone using internet access for domestic purposes, for example whilst a reasonable amount of working from home is expected, your usage should be within what would be reasonably expected from a residential customer and we have no liability for any business losses you may suffer. We have other more appropriate packages such as Homeworks, and for small business use there are services provided for by Virgin Media Business.0 -
A "reasonable amount of working from home" is absolutely fine by me.
From how I read the term it's there to protect Virgin in the event of being sued by someone like me for loss of earning/business/etc in case of a service failure. Which is fair enough, if the home internet fails I just use my mobile, the library or a cafe.Per their T's and C's of using their resedential BB services:

Out of interest, why would one need a business account for wfh?
I am home-based as well and this never even crossed by mind.
Likewise, worked from home since 2006 and it’s never crossed my mind. I work a day in the office and then four days from home. It’s literally emails, downloading data reports.
We’re going to tether of our phones for four days post completion and sign up with virgin the day after completion.0
