Does anyone use dairy free cheese

Another question. Does anyone use dairy free cheese and if so which one? Im trying to find one that I can use, particulaly for cheese sauces that would be suitable for a baby, so prefereably with a low amount of salt as well. There seem to be quite a few available on the internet but I would imagine that some are better then others, especially for cooking so any advice would be great thanks.

Hiya
I use dairy free cheese for my little girl. Cheezly (terrible name, I know!) is available in Tesco. I use it for everything I would use dairy cheese for, including cheese sauce. I make a big batch of cheese sauce and freeze it in smaller portions. To use it, I just defrost and reheat in the microwave, or for lasagne (which she has just eaten for dinner), defrost and add to the lasagne cold before cooking the lasagne.
I have used goats cheese before too, but if you are dealing with allergies, you should really contact the manufacturer to check that there is no cows milk in it, and that there is no chance of cross contamination during the manufacturing process.
I have been dealing with my daughter's dairy free diet for five years now, so give me a shout if I can be of any help.0 -
I eat Cheezly too, it's Yummy Yummy in my Tummy, and now cows suffered for my dinnerSay it once, say it loud ~ I'm an Atheist, Anti-Royalist, Socialist, Tea-Total Veggie Frog and PROUD!:D

I love both Cheezly and Sheese. Cheezly is available in a block, both regular and super-melting, and in slices. They also have Greek Cheezly (like Feta). Sheese is available in a block as well as soft spreadable stuff in a tub.
I find non-dairy cheese very versatile. I've made cauliflower cheese, potato gratin, pizza, lasagne, cream soups, Greek salad, cheese on toast, etc.
There are some recipes for Sheese here and for Cheezly here.

Hi Pandora
Where do you get the different Cheezly from? I can only get the block.
Thanks0 -

One thing I find frustrating is that different health shops carry different varieties of Cheezly. Bigger shops are better for having the slices and Greek Cheezly, but I've yet to find a shop that carries all varieties of Cheezly and Sheese. You may want to ask at your favourite health shop to see if they'll bring different varieties in. You can also order directly from Redwood:
