Thanks Dumb Blonde you do give the nail a good hit on the head!
Was it you who had an argument with your hubby the other day on a thread I read? If it is is everything ok?
I've had ones of those everything needs down days writing days today. It's two days till payday and i've written out my budget for the month.......bloody christmas grrrrr, same with the MOT, that's next Friday.
I've just caught up with all my bills after a summer of overspending and setting up my plan with Payplan.
I have no savings either but with xmas out of the way and with my first wage of my second job there will be and odds and sods account and a emergency account!
See i'm still planning.....which i know isn't a bad thing but it's still my mind on the debt!In debt no more!0 -
I've been doing it too -do this and save that/change this and pay for that/work that and pay of this! It is exhausting but makes me feel like I'm making inroads and I smile when I think how far I've come. Having said that - i've just spent the afternoon with a friend telling her the wonders of budgeting.....maybe I should get out more......0

Hi Loubie_Lou - yep that was me that had a row with my husband the other day - though the be totally honest between you, me and several (possible) million other viewers it was my fault ............ it was PMT but I didn't realise it at the time because I had lost my diary so had no idea when it would be the time of the month etc etc etc - anyway everythings fine now thank you.
You mention Christmas - have you visited the freebies board at all - dear me - I have got several Clarins Mascara's and 3 Elizabeth Arden Mascara's and numerous other bits n bobs to make up gift hampers - look over on the christmas thread - they make it look easy but you really can do christmas on a budget - you don't need to spend fortunes and rack up your credit card even more for just a bubble bath/shower gel in some fancy packaging !!!!! I nipped into the high street yesterday for some inspiration and that was all I saw - Lynx gift sets - Oil of Olay gifts sets blah blah blah - yet if you were to buy them seperately it would work out so much cheaper - I came away with nothing ................. then on reading a newspaper that my husband picked up off the train (I make him and his travelling buddy scour the carridge for newspapers - I love to read) well in the Mirror I think it was - there was an article about spending £2.50 for net fly sheets to protect against mossie bites/malaria - so all close family are going to get that for xmas along with a little something. The freebies you can get are great - everyone loves a freebie - and when the postman arrives and there's a big crash my son and I sprint for the door to see whats arrived - he's only 2 bless him but he's even recieved a few magazines though the post.
Loubie_Lou - when you are debt free promise me that you will still visit this website at least weekly - if only to offer advice. After we became debt free and then of course I had a newborn to look after I don't think I had time and then this year what with one thing and another I got us back into debt - it was a 'cheer-me-up' spend and thats only a few quid and low and behold I'd got us back into s#!t street again.
We're all going to do just fine - this website is really amazing - just keep posting - the more you post the more help you'll get.
Well today my son and I were marooned upstairs as we had 2 plasterers in doing the kitchen area etc and after we had exhausted all of the toys/bath/books etc we (yes we) went up into the loft and got down my sons christmas tree for his room with a few decorations and lights - he thought it was fantastic - it looks lovely.
Oh and keep going with your lists, lists and more lists - they help so much.
I think there should be more 'money awareness' taught at school - I'm sure at lot of us wouldn't be here now if there was - my son who is 2 - can say about 30 words or so - well maybe a few more than that but he 'understands' money - its really weird - he can say 'cash' as well and clear as he can say mum or dad ............. when we walk up to the shops he won't leave until he has his wallet with some 'cash' in from his money box - seriously and when we go out and about and he gets into one of those awful 'machines' 3 goes for £1 - he gets in and looks at me and shouts 'cash, mum cash' - yep at this rate he'll be doing martins job ................. he is going to learn very young - no credit - save for it.0 -
Thanks Dumb Blonde
Believe me i'll never leave this site! I've been a long time lurker for over three years now (the occasional poster too!).
I'll always kick myself for not closing down my 3k overdraft after i paid it off when i left uni. Oh well I've severely learnt my lesson now!
I will continue to make my lists as I believe they do help me clarify things. I also agree that money awareness needs to be taught on some level so people like me will learn that you don't need everything now, now, now!!
I'm glad you made up with your hubby. Your last post was a bit scary I was worried for you! Hee hee.
Phew at least it's payday tomorrow. I can enjoy myaelf this weekend. My house mate treated me to a bottle of wine last night and my head hurts! In debt no more!0 -
Just one wee thought loubie - you do need to have sme treats in there! Part of the reason you're getting down is that all work and no play just makes you downright depressed fairly quickly, as I discovered last year (see post 1 of my diary)! Also do you do any excercise? Its a way of releasing those happy hormones & while I do have to literally DRAG myself out to do some it does make a difference-even if its just a walk! Doesent have to cost much!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Even in the darkest moments, love and hope are always possible.0

I think setting targets is a great idea but if you are burning yourself out then the targets are too hard. Set money aside for treats as well as bills.Barclaycard 3800

I am the same. I think about it 24/7. I sometimes just sit and stare at my spreadsheet looking at the figures, desperate for them to go down. I took a few days away from here earlier in the week, and it really helped. I still thought about money, but not to the extent that i do when I come on here and am surrounded by it. I have a routine everyday - I come online, check my bank, update my spreadsheet, come on here, check quidco, check pigsback, check snowball. I check everything about 4 times a day. It's ridiculous. I'm trying to take a step back now and limit my time on here to see if that helps.Olympic Countdown Challenge #145 ~ DFW Nerd #389 ~ Debt Free Date: [STRIKE]December 2015[/STRIKE] September 2015

I think about it an awful lot and dont think it will stop when I am debt free. Think it is just a change in my attitude towards money.
Its only money, but it can make a big difference to your life, having or not having it. Its just an essential at the end of the day. So long as we realise there are other things in life (apparently) and it cant buy us certain things, the things we really need, then we are OK. It cant buy us love, friendship, health and so on. It might mean we can get the best doctor when we are ill, but doesnt buy health and happiness.0 -
