NRAM Compensation

Hi, i’m new and not sure on the terminology etc... so go gentle if I sound ignorant.
I received a check in the post from NRAM for £4.84, under the title ‘remittance’.
I called them to ask what is was for, and they say it’s an error on my mortgage that I took out in 2005 and ended in 2014 (through selling the house, no debt involved).
I did not pursue any claim, this came from them pursuing me.
If I accept this compensation without looking into it, is the matter ‘settled’ was is it ‘settled’ already and I may as well just take the fiver?
When I asked them what they did wrong to need to compensate me, they said I needed to write in... came across as either coy or indifferent.
Do any of you folks have experience of this process and could you direct me as to best course of action?
Accept and move on or dig deeper?

It's almost certainly some trivial error in calculating interest, not an attempt to cover up something more serious.0

I thought this was probably it, but didn’t want to just accept it and face plant myself afterwards.
Not so much that they were ‘covering up’ just the compo should be more but they are offering an arbitrary figure unless challenged.0 -
It would cost considerably more than £4.84 for them to start explaining it or entering into further discussion about it. Just bank the cheque and forget about it.0

If there was something they wanted to hide, why would they send you anything at all?0
