You may have enough cleaning cloths, but our eldest had a sheet which was supposed to be used however he liked for imaginative play - a den one day, a king's cloak the next etc.

He wasn't that kind of child but it was perfect for car travel. Tucked over a lap, it would catch spills, crumbs and the inevitable up-chucking...

I had some homegrown lavender I wanted to keep in my wardrobe, but didn't have time to make a small bag for. Then I remembered I have some old embroidered handkerchiefs, so I broke the dried lavender until it fitted, gathered up the corners of the hanky and tied a matching coloured piece of string around it. Quick and simple.

:) I've done this also, with the hankie tied up with a bit of skinny ribbon which was formerly hanging loops on a garment.

I usually take these out as they craze me but always save them - they are often deployed on h.m. tied on gift labels.

I don't see why you can't use this wax in candles, although you will have to make sure it's clean first. (You don't want cheese contaminating your candles.) Here are instructions for removing contaminants from candle wax. See page 219. (Melt, strain, and then reuse/store.)

    Hi!
Something I picked up from an allotment goddess who cuts used yogurt pots into strips and uses them instead of plant labels. Just use a permanent marker pen and best on the lip part of pots.

    That's a good idea actually. :)

I've seen those wooden 'chip-shop forks' being used for this but given they are usually very short lengths, they are not really that great for this unless its a tiny seedling pot.

:) I'd tried lolly sticks for this in the past, which are obviously bigger, but found that they go mouldy really easily.

  • Thank you for the suggestions. Another shirt went pop this week! Think I might try to make a cot sheet and a sleeveless top. I may report back but only if successful!

I cut up plastic milk bottles for plant labels and use permanent marker pen. You can make some long ones which I find handy.

Do examine your material closely: I've often been tempted to try to re-purpose my silk shirts (from the charity shop, obviously) when they start to 'go' but my big concern is that I would spend hours doing so, only to have the new 'thing' also 'go'.

So generally I just strip the buttons ...
