in Cutting tax
Hi,
does anyone know why a family member of mine is using the 1244L tax code, when the normal and most used one for people would be 1250L from what i have read. They work in the NHS, but part time, and do not have any other income, as they just have the one job and that is all they do.
Thankyou.

It could be a million different things. A few can be ruled out like the difference involving Marriage Allowance or the person concerned being Scottish or Welsh resident for tax purposes but as molerat said the Personal Tax Account will reveal all.
It could be £60 expenses coupled with something else with reduces the overall code but it's all guesswork at this stage.0 -
ask the person concerned, they would have a coding notice (or can access their online account and look) explaining how the code was calculatedJARGONSHATTEREDDD wrote: »Hi,

or if they are unwilling to share such info, then why does it concern you?0 -
The op may believe the family member has no other income but the reality is they won't know all that persons personal finances.
It could be something as simple as the tax code being made up of
Personal Allowance £12,500
Less Untaxed Interest £60
Tax code allowances = £12,440
Tax code 1244L
That can happen if the part time work means the family friend isn't liable to tax and has spare Personal Allowance.0
