Tesco Changed Misprice policy?

Hi,

Sorry if this has been posted before but couldn't find it.

I bought a lamp from tesco, priced at £9.97.. when we got home we noticed we had been charged £10.00. I drove back to tesco, double checked the shelf price and once I confirmed we had been 3p over-charged I took the lamp + receipt to the service desk.

I explained what happened and the girl at the desk gave me 6p with a big grin on her face. I asked what happened to the refund and she really couldn't have been happier to tell me they have changed their policy and now only refund double the difference (which didn't even cover my fuel driving to and from tesco!)... even Asda give you a £2 gift voucher as an apology for any mistake (knocking a toddler over is worth £1 apparantley..lol)

Is this right of have I been screwed over by an overly smug shop assistant?

  • No she is right
Tesco changed their policy a while ago (although in some stores they still have old signs up at the till point stating that if they over charge you they give you the product and a full refund) but havent tried that one - the sign behind customer services states the new policy of only refunding double the difference. Check out the misprice tesco board on here.

reckon they had to change it cause people were abusing it!..in saying that they should have had their price right in the first place but people got greedy!

I thoght you were the strictest money saver I'd ever met when I started reading the therad, thought you'd travelled back back on purpose expecting to get a 6p refund!

  • I don't think Asda do the £2 gift vouchers anymore either, simply refunding the difference. I'm sure someone will correct me if I got that wrong.

    http://www.asda.co.uk/corp/customer_service/FAQs.htm

scroll to the bottom of page and the £2 gift card per item is shown:

What happens if I am overcharged?
If you have been overcharged in any of our stores we will gladly refund the difference (if you have been overcharged) and give you a £2 Gift card voucher for each product you have been mischarged for.

Wonder what happens if you are UNDERCHARGED??!!

    Hope it helps!!!
