One of our godfathers was, after interview, offered the post on the condition he cut his hair. He declined, and spent four spectacularly long months unemployed before he found another employer who was more concerned with the brains than the looks (& anyway wasn't Customer Facing.)

Why this issue has kicked off now the chap may know or guess, but unless his boss has been getting some duff HR advice, it's looking as if he ls being asked to change his personal style to something a little more conservative (With A Small c) or seek alternative employment.

Which doesn't seem fair or reasonable but if his boss has decided to downsize a bit, the hair is just a handy pretext.

It seems not fair not to mention it before employing. Companies usually warn you about dresscode when interviewing

This is another example of the Millennial Generation wanting everything their own way "I know my rights".

Life isn't about getting your own way all the time. Life is about doing what is required of you, whether its in the work place, driving or anything else that requires a level of regulation. But some people don't think that rules and regulation applies to them. Well hard luck. This is the real world.

I think working practices have moved on somewhat from this 1950s view....

Surprising that you would air your prejudices in public

Quite worrying that you think as a boss that gives you the right to dictate someone's hair style.
Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.
