Broker Health Questionnaire

My Broker has sent me their own 17 page health questionnaire and reading through it it really seems like they are asking personal questions. Why would they want to know my trouser waist size and clothing sizes?
Is it a legal requirement or can I say no? I don't see what size trousers I wear has anything to do with a mortgage.

It will be for protection insurances they will offer you to cover the mortgage, i.e. life, critical illness or income protection insurance.
Generally you are not obligated to take these through your broker, you can shop around, although s/he should know what they are talking about.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. The insurance will be based on risk. Overweight / obese = higher risk of health issues eg heart attack, diabetes etc.
Smoker = risk of the big C
Drinker = liver issues
If you want insurance via a broker you will have to give them personal information.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.0 -
Ah right okay. So if I'm not taking out insurance through my broker, I don't need to fill it in?0

No, but I would give your broker the opportunity to look at this cover for you and answering these questions will give them the ability to be accurate with the quotes.0

Have you asked the Broker, why do they need the info. Just call and rise your concerns.20SmthngSver wrote: »Ah right okay. So if I'm not taking out insurance through my broker, I don't need to fill it in?
IF for some bizarre reasons he is asking such question only for the mortgage and you are (rightfully) uncomfortable answering them, just tell them and if they insist on getting answers just go for another broker. It's not like there is shortage of mortgage brokers or something.0 -
Life insurers typically ask waist sizes today to help them assess risk as BMI alone is a crude indicator.I am a Mortgage Broker
