I am currently getting my first mortgage which i have had in offer from Halifax in writing.
Does anyone know at what point they ask for bank statements as they only asked for payslips but most lenders ask for both dont they?
Thanks!

As far as I’m aware. Halifax are one of the lenders that don’t ask for bank statements. I don’t know if this is true for first time buyers but certainly for remortgaging they don’t want bank statements.0

thank you!
Someone i know said they got asked for the bank statements as proof for where the deposit has come from but others have said they didnt so am a bit unsure.0 -
Majority of high street lenders have different packaging requirements depending on the outcome of the credit scoring process or the ltv etc.
I had a case with santander recently that didnt need bank statments, did auto income verification, desktop val. Was through to offer in about an hour. Same with Barclays actually.
Halifax are generally quite light on packaging especially if you are only using basic incomes and no benefits or anything like that.0 -
Thanks! Everything is pretty simple on it. Only me on the mortgage and only one form of income.
I am buying through the shared ownership scheme. Do you have any idea of how long it takes roughly from the mortgage offer to exchange as can't seem to get any idea from the solicitors of whats happening.0 -

With anything involving 3rd parties its a case of how quickly they respond to questions. Shared ownership are notorious for being slower than average due to having to wait on information from the housing association. I dont do many shared ownerships in my area but i am stuck in chains with them every once in a while and they are always the bit that slows everything down
Put more pressure on your solicitor though, you are paying them a lot of money so you should be requesting value for this0 -
Hi, I used Halifax and I can confirm they only ask for one payslip.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

Im definitely going to keep chasing them up
Thanks for your help!0 -
Thanks Amy.
Did they not ask for them at all?
Someone i know said they were asked when the deposit was due so i just want to be prepared to have everything they ask for!0 -
If you’ve already got your formal offer then it’s extremely unlikely that you will need to supply any further documents or info.
If you need an extension or to change anything on the application then they may ask for more at that time.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. Halifax asked me to bring 3 payslips when I went and got my AIP.0
