joint account - chasing me!!!!!!!!!

Options
a friend of mine was married and divorced to a pardon me...creep! they had joint bank acc, which she thought was clear, he cleared off to dubai with a younger girlfriend half his age! and now yrs later theyre chasing her for £8000, she said it was actually his debt it wasnt her debt.

because hes in another country theyre not bothering with him she said but chasing her, she cannot afford it and reluctantly agreed recently to pay 80 oer month shell be paying it for rest of her life! for his debts it seens unfair

what should she have done/could she do?

i read that after 6 yrs of chasing someone for debt if they dont respond or pay they dont bother with it.

    It's always a friend isn't it

Suggest legal advice is taken over this one, ex has obviously run up an overdraft for which both parties are jointly and severally liable.

For free advice, CCCS is suggested.

Sadly both parties are liable for this debt. When my mum left my dad, my dad had to pay off my mums overdraft before he could change the bank account to his name only.

if she hasn't paid anything for 6 years then the debt is statute barred and the debt unenforceable.
what are the details of the debt?
