Sacked for gross misconduct

My resignation has been changed to dismissal for gross misconduct 4 weeks after voluntarily leaving my employer and starting as a temp. (9month temp position)
Will the old employer automatically Contact my new employer and update the ref they provided 4 weeks ago?
I looked up my daughters address (we are estranged) and wanted to write to ask if I could see my grandchildren. I didn't contact in the end, but the fact I looked it up was a breach.
I know it was all my fault and accept that but am now worried that I will be sacked again from the new position.
Can anyone provide any advice to help?
Thanks

I doubt your old employer will have the details of your current employer. If the reference has already been provided I imagine you’re ok.
Although looking up confidential data is a big no so if your current employer does find out I assume they will probably sack you.0 -

You did that really! Yes they're within their rights to update their reference who knows if they will. I hope so if you are around any sensitive data.0 -

If they were asked for a reference then of course they will have the details of the new employer. If somebody accessed confidential information without permission, which is clearly what happened here, I wouldn't be in the least surprised if the new employer was informed.0 -

Depends if they record the details or not.
It would also depend on what sort of reference is provided as many companies will just confirm the dates of service and job title.
It would be quite petty to contract an ex employees new company to provide a new reference. I would suggest most companies wouldn’t bother doing this. Especially as it opens up to a different company that an employee misused the companies data.
Either way OP they will or they won’t. Nobody here can tell you either way.0 -
Given the deed is done...why not write to your daughter anyway? What do you have to lose?Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!0

Not government post now. But was on a fixed term contract with them. I am so ashamed of myself.0

You've mangled one job & may have compromised other possibilities.
Please, write. [Do not mention the job loss.]
Try to recover something from this, even if it's just writing to your grandchildren each week (or emailing or something you can show them in another decade's time)0 -
Was this a government post you were in? Is the current employment another government post?
My guess is you will get away with them not contacting the new employer. Departments don't like to admit that staff do !!!! like this, gives a bad impression, and it is legitimately the vast minority of staff that do it.
The fact that they caught on to the fact shows that the system works to catch it though.0 -

That makes the error worse. What if they don't want to be contacted?
