Cheilectomy

Anybody had one?
How long was the recovery? How long did you need off work? Any unexpected down-sides?

I've been told I have arthritis in my toe and this could be one of my options... unless they decide to wait to see if it gets any worse :(

  • Ok, didn't realise it was so obscure! :rotfl:

It's an operation to correct hallux rigidus / arthritis of the big toe.

I've only known people have surgery for bunions which may or may not be similar: that's been about a 6 week recovery IF all goes well, and they'll only do one at a time ...

Someone I worked with had to have both her big toes broken and realigned - not sure whether it was arthritis or bunions though  She had 6-8 weeks off work. Couldn't wear normal shoes or any sort of trainers for a few more weeks (wore flip flops for some time) as it gave more pain.

She had to have pain therapy a few months afterwards, although she was one who dislikes taking painkillers too often.

Longer term though, she had much less pain.

(They did both her feet at the same time).

Just looked this up - not sure if it helps at all - it says if you have a desk job you can be back to work quite quickly.
