Mortgage if working abroad

My husband works abroad and is paid in US Dollars. I am a housewife with no income. What is the likelihood of us getting a mortgage? He has a reasonably high income. Do you think we would be best going to our own bank as they know is well and can see our history of saving and income? I have been told that we may struggle to borrow anything. Many thanks.

There are lenders that could look at this for you - subject to the usual warning of you meeting the rest of their criteria.
What is the purchase price you are looking at? What deposit do you have? WHat is his income (in pounds)?

Hi,
We were in exactly the same position as you & your OH (last year), and we managed to get a mortgage with our (high street) bank. Generally, they are happy to lend to expats where the maximum LTV is 75%. Maybe the criteria have tightened in the last year, given the credit crunch. If you get no joy, try this website.

Assuming you will live in the house the mortgage should be "residential" type and therefore covered by the FSA.In case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:0
