20k GBP Credit card debts

Options
Hello,
I am a European citizen , I lived in the uk for 10 years and was self employed. Due to the way things go in self employment, I racked up 20k in credit card debts in the last Few Years living there. I left in 2016 and I have not returned. I still have some companies calling and leaving messages on my phone like PRA Group and woodcroft. I never answer these people. So I am living abroad and self employed, working and saving Money. The debts are still owed and I have no idea of how much they are now, the 20k could be 30k I imagine.
I am not planning on Living in the UK anymore and I am not from there, so I have no ties or connections. I dont own properties on anything like that. So this debt is all Civil debt I assume (it was all on Unsecured credit cards)?
I am just thinking these guys (debt collectors) Might try to get me abroad , so what should I do?

Since 2016 thye have not managed to know my address, yes they leave phone messages on my Old UK cell phone and I think they got ccj's against me, but what is the extent of the powers of the debt collectors like PRA group etc?

any info greatly appreciated

Robert

  • You could face up to your debts and agree a payment plan to pay back what you owe?
At least that way you can get on with your life knowing you are doing the right thing and dealing with your debts, if you run from it, you will always be waiting for letters or voicemails and the chance that it could catch up with you.

    I agree with this.

Same here - pay back what you owe even if it is at a reduced rate. Next time there is a call say you want everything in writing and provide an address so that you can begin repayment.

Agreed - face up to the debts you owe and pay them back. You borrowed the money so you are obligated to pay the lender, even if it's at a reduced rate.
Start by having a conversation with them about current balances, and as users above have said, work out a repayment plan that suits you and the lenders.

Or if you are struggling and cannot afford to pay it back then bankruptcy may be a better option for you especially as you have no assests that you could sell to pay for it, it could be a clean break for you,

dont worry too much about debt, your health and well being are far more important, its sad when we hear about people ending thier life due to debt when there is always another way out, yes bankruptcy may not be my first port of call but in your situation it may be for the best

also dont worry about the cc companys they take into acoount that there will be people who will struggle to pay everything back due to personal circumstances and they factor that in into the business model, so dont worry if you are struggling to pay it back

i have cc debt which im paying back as i can afford if that helps

all the best with everything mate
People are caught up in an egotistic artificial rat race to display a false image to society. We want the biggest house, fanciest car, and we don't mind paying the sky high mortgage to put up that show. We sacrifice our biggest assets our health and time, We feel happy when we see people look up to us and see how successful we are”
