This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

    Good morning all

Still very hot and humid here and no sign of rain.

Nothing much to say, haven't been anywhere or done anything. Sorry I'm boring.

    Take care

  • Morning folks and thanks SILVER-OLDIE. Sometimes boring is good so don't apologise. We don't need added drama in our lives.

Yesterday's forecasted showers never materialised. It was warm and sunny all day. I hope today's forecasted showers don't materialise either but really the gardens do need some rain so I shouldn't be selfish!

Not a lot planned for today. I am undecided whether to pop down into town early doors as there are odd bits I need. Nothing vital that won't keep! DS, his DP and her kids are jaunting off on holiday today. Gran Canaria. They need to be on their way to the airport mid morning.

The little girl I looked after for a short while yesterday was a real delight! She never stopped talking and by the time DD picked her up I knew all about her family here and her relatives in Sicily, the holidays they had with them and the health problems of all the elderly aunts and uncles over there! One even has black toe nails!! (I didn't ask!) She was such a cutie and I wouldn't hesitate to look after her again. (And, apart from my DGDs, I don't usually like other peoples' kids!!)

Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all in need or want of them. Thinking as ever of all our absent friends. Maybe Taff will be back with us, was last week the end of Dad's rad treatment? Take care all xx

    Morning everyone

Silver-oldie - thanks for starting us off x

Back from our holiday, we came back a couple of days' early as I got a lovely surprise phone call last Friday lunchtime to say DS2 had been granted leave from then to this weekend, so we met him off the train last Friday evening, DH is taking him back tomorrow. Our accommodation was lovely and we were lucky with the weather - it was a good break.

Hugs to those that want/need one, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Cloudy start and forecast is for much the same for the coming days, no rain - but think it's forecast for later in the week. I'll get a wash load going and get as much line dried as possible.

DH and myself enjoying first cuppas, he's watching catchup tv, whilst I'm on here. DS1 and DS2 still in their pits.

Dinner last night was breaded chicken portions, ham and mushroom pizza, side salad, HM coleslaw and new potatoes. Not sure what we'll be having tonight but I'll organize it this morning. I do need to get some shopping.

    Keep safe and well x

    Have a good day everyone.

    Good morning all.

Yesterday became a whirlwind of sorting out paperwork and making phone calls once I found that the mail had been delivered. Today I will be scanning the papers and then disposing of them. So much for the paperless society!

DM ate well yesterday even though she was still in bed. I think that once she knew I was recording every meal she realised that 'I'm eating well' wasn't going to work anymore with the GP. Anyhow, I was much happier with her food intake, long may it continue.

Today brings a morning shopping trip and an afternoon visitor for crossword time. When he's here I'll be going out somewhere. Yesterday the shops were packed with people buying huge amounts of food, seems that even a local holiday involves feeding the five thousand. In days gone by the Glasgow Fair Fortnight was when all the industries closed down and the workers had their annual holiday all at the same time. Most went 'down the water' and some went to English holiday resorts like Whitley Bay, Blackpool etc. Those times are no more.

My thoughts to all those in pain or missing from here. Happy Saturday to everyone.
  • I remember those times too GERS. Ours was called Feast Week and the whole town was virtually deserted, even some shops didn't bother opening. Me and DB had no-one to play with and were quite bored as my dad worked for a newspaper in the next city and we had to take their holiday week! Originally we went to Blackpool and then ventured further afield to Bridlington on the other coast! It's hard to believe now isn't it!

Morning, off to a picnic later and the weather is looking good. It's a lovely location but has the worst public toilets I've ever been to. Fingers crossed they are a bit better this year! I've got lots of scrummy picnic foods to share and will make the sandwiches next. Mustn't forget sun screen!

Sounds like our toilets here in Kent. Disgusting. We have such beautiful beaches and the council
have even closed some toilets on Margate main sands!

Morning, thank you for starting today's thread silver-oldie, I'm pretty boring too.

We have sun and clouds here, a decent breeze and my washing was out in the line before 6. Most if it is in tge line, 2 or 3 things are on hangers, in a tree.

I am stuck on the crossword, Gers foes your mum do the same one as me? I like the big cryptic one in the Times. OH gets to do the small one daily but Saturday is my turn.

DS spent hours making complex brownies last night so dinner was nearly 3 hours late because he'd commandeered not o lying the kitchen but the dining room too. My role was to pass ingredients and wash up.

OH has been hunter gathering at m*rrisons and he's unpacking now. I need to do some work in the garden and then shower and change, I'm wearing grubby clothes which are ready for the wash but just for gardening, not for normal.

Best wishes to those who are struggling and those who are missing, hope this is temporary.

    Morning all

Lovely bright sunny day here I have a wash load in the wm and another to go in after they can both go on the line today, OH will put his in after.

I have lost another 1lb this week so its coming off but very slowly they do say 1 - 2 lb is the best way to lose but its taking its own sweet time !!

Going to finish my tea then hoover through downstairs and mop the floors and put kitchen and lounge straight, then I will go shopping with dd and get bits in for the week.

This afternoon we are off to a beer festival at the local pub, its two mins walk from our house so no problem getting there or back, I dont actually like beer very much so I will sample the gins !

We went to Kent for a week in March and visited Margate, the beach was so lovely (although bracing in March) the Pup loved racing along on the sand (we have pebble beaches here).

    Have good days all xx
