Hi
I recently visited a Halifax branch for Mortgage appointment with advisor face to face and they are recording the entire duration of the conversation in the room.
Is this legal?
I have never encountered any other provider recording in the room. i.e lender or a broker doing this practice?
Kind Regards

When i worked in Halifax right at the end of my time there they started showing the clients videos of the initial disclosure and the terms and conditions becuase they didnt trust their staff to do it properly.
I would imagine this is an extension of this. Halifax and most high street lenders have been caught in so many mis-selling and poor advice scandals that its probably to protect themselves.
I would take the fact the appointments are being recorded as a sign that the quality of the advice with that provider is probably under some sort of scrutiny.
Did you raise it and ask why it was being recorded?0 -
Obviously you were aware it was being recorded - I don't see why it wouldn't be legal? You'd expect their phone calls to be recorded, so why not face-to-face discussions?0

If they told you in advance that they were recording it then you had a choice to leave at that point or carry on. If they told you at the end, then is suspect this is probably not legal and certainly not good practice.
Personally I don’t think it’s a bad thing.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. Is this legal?
I have heard several do this. It serves to purposes.
1) to prove their process is compliant
2) to reduce the try-it-on/fraudulent complaints that are being generated nowadays.0 -
We opened a new joint account with Halifax a few weeks ago and the appointment was recorded. The advisor told us the meeting would be recorded prior to starting and there were signs in the room confirming meetings may be recorded. Perfectly legal and in place to make sure the bank and customers are protected.0

There are LOADS of posts on here from people or the children of people who claim a mortgage was miss sold and this or that was never said or explained.
So recording the conversation is a good way of being able to evidence whether or not something was said.
Assuming you are in agreement with the meeting being recorded, why would it not be legal?I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. It was only a matter of time before banks and building societies decide that this lapse in memory by the general population should come to a stop.
Just wait until the rest starts to follow.0
