Great job opportunity - pointless taking it.

@sarahDoe, I dont think it works like that.....does it ?0

Well, I am in the process of doing this.
I have emailed my OR (who was absolutely brilliant throughout the BR). She had to check with her deputy, few days later she came back to me with the positive answer. I have spoken to CW, they have provided me with the total balance (which is slight more than yours).
I have to transfer the funds and provide the evidence of source for money (bank statement, etc).
After that CW confirmed that they will sent the confirmation letter stating that my IPA is closed. I am hoping to make transfer this week. And have a trully fresh start from the next week.0 -
Few typos there :-)
But again. It is at ORs discretion. If they think you are likely to be earning more in the future, they will say no.
I am single mother, just broke up with gambling husband. I guess they did not see potential in me :-)0 -
Just because you lose the benefit of the bigger salary in the short term doesn't mean you wont gain. 'Climbing the ladder' usually means your next job will be at a similar or greater salary. After your 2 years are up you'll be in a great position. You can adjust your SOA to take into account any new 'expenses' traveling, higher expected standards of dress etc. Rents in Aberdeen are extortionate so that will soak up a lot of your extra income and the general price of the cost of living in Aberdeen reflects the high earning population.
Your boss might not give you a 2nd chance to go up to that level, turning it down would be madness!? I can't think of any reason why I wouldn't take such a big promotion.0 -

In my opinion you are being extremely short-sighted and ignoring any other career related benefits that this could bring. Promotion and increased future earning potential being just two of them. You pushed for promotion and are now proposing to reject it. How will your employer view that? If you were working for me future offers may not be forthcoming.
You really need to change your long-term view of life. It ain't all about the immediate financial gain.0 -

You are ignoring the fact that this job is not paying a high wage for skills or responsibility, but for the significant risks involved.0 -
It’s offshore on the rigs I suspect, my friend works out there, as said above, it’s the risk involved that attracts the big bucks, not the actual job.
You go out on fixed contracts which may or may not be renewed.

Can you confirm jay, whether there is any longer term career benefit to taking this job? Or is the money purely for the risk?0

No, I am not. It is an opportunity. In the OP's own words it is a 'door opening'.0 -
Hi Thanks for the replies.
Just to confirm it is on the rigs. i have done it before and i am very experienced but i do know that the contracts rarely get extended after the initial time. it could be another 4 years until another comes along. its all risk as it stands as the job i am experienced at. I need to give it some thought ..... no point putting my self in any greater danger for no reason. Thanks folks.0
