BR, house move and utilities?

Purely a hypothetical question , at the moment!!
I know about all the hassle of renting and BR, but what happens if you move and have to change electricity/gas providers?
If i moved to a property with a different supplier, would they want money up front?
If i changed supplier it would take about 6 weeks to do. My worry is if i moved and the new property had Powergen as there supplier, i'd have huge probs as Powergen were one of my creditors.
What would happen in a case like this? is there any way round it?

cant remember seeing where....but sure some of the utility companies will require a deposit up front for provision of service while BR, although if someone else in the house took the services in their names it could be a different matter, powergen were a creditor..the debt you owed while with them dies with the BR order...though if you found yourself with powergen as a new supplier they might be a little nasty, they could ask for payment upfront as well as insist on a pre-payment meter

hey BTLN. what do you mean trouble with renting and BK? Bit panicked now! Is there somethng dodgy with renting|???
On your note, yes i asked a while back about ultilities and people said that the deposit is usually the way forward. my thought would be that electricity cannot be denied and therefore surely powergen would have to give you electricty even if they were a creditor, perhaps tho they would just ask for a meter to be put in. also, surely your debts with them are 'written off by bk' and therefore they can't make a claim about bk??Saving £12k in 2015

Thanks for that.
The trouble with renting i meant hans, was that an agency generally won't take you on. If they do they usually want 6 months rent in advance. The best way to rent is using a private LL, but they seem to be few and far between nowadays. The first time we said hello, was the first time we said goodbye. Although housing accociations dont seem to bother about BR, i've been with one for years & told them about my BR in march...to which the answered" not bothered...long as the rent is paid on time its fine with us"We all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will0

hey don't worry, I went BR back in June and just moved into lovely private rental after voluntary letting bank reposses ouse-in neg equity situation and better off renting and getting some housing benefit. As for utilities I switched providers from powergen tp npower on moving in with no probs, never asked just set up a contract-voila. Just suggest you do same and hope it doesn't come up.0
