What keeps you going?

Curious to know how other's keep motivated when you haven't won anything for ages and feel like giving up?

I've been comping for a good few years now and I've won some great things but last year or 2, like other's have said the wins are few and far between. Feel like giving up but then I'm not sure.

I don't really comp as much these days and the comps I do enter are few and far between, although I have recently started to enter comps that I normally wouldn't, just because the pickings are so slim these days.

I think it comes down to you asking yourself, what would I do if I wasn't comping? ... if you're just gonna sit watching TV or doing something mundane then you're probably better off sticking with comping since there's, at least, a chance of getting something out of it.

If you have better / more productive things to be doing then i would maybe think about cutting back the hours spent on comping if you're losing the fun/thrill aspect.

You can always take a break for a few weeks and come back to it, see if you miss it or not.

but as they say, you've gotta be in it to win it.

If I get 'bored' or disheartened then I take a break.
I go and do chores or other hobbies and eventually if I get the urge to enter competitions again or I enter only the ones I come across on social media myself.

A win helps keep me going too, so if I don't feel like taking a break but I'm feeling a little off with comping, I go and hunt out low entry competitions by going on social medias and searching #UKCompetitions #UKGiveaways etc. I go onto Facebook and look at Craft networking groups where people post their craft competitions, that don't generally get seen, so there is less entries. I also look for local competitions where there are less entries. For me I feel I have more of a chance of winning less entry competitions and it gives me more of a push to find them if I haven't had a win in awhile.
Thank you to everyone who posts competitions and good luck to everyone who enters.

thanks I like the idea of looking for low entry small wins to keep me going, I'll give it a try.

I guess like any hobby, enthusiasm comes and goes with it. If you aren't feeling enthusiastic, comp less or not at all for a bit because if it feels like a chore, it probably isn't worth it. You'll probably miss it and get back into it with renewed vigour! When I'm not so enthusiastic I only enter the mag dailies, which I do in the evening in front of the TV as a force of habit. I don't come on here at all as I have them all bookmarked. Then I'll have an afternoon off and it'll be raining and I'll be at a loose end and I'll think "I might just have a little look on MSE" and before I know it, I'll be right back in the thick of it again!
