New term time job - holiday query

A month ago I accepted a teaching assistant job in an academy school.
Now all their pre employment checks have come back ok, I started putting the holiday dates in my diary so that I could ensure before and after school care is booked and I have childcare covered for inset days I realise the October half term for this year is a week different to the school my children attend and we had in April paid a deposit with on the beach for a weeks break in Spain.
Obviously at the time of booking my holiday I was in a role where we our annual leave can be booked whenever but I would appreciate some advice. I have emailed the head teacher who has said if it was booked prior to me accepting my role we will be able to work something out and to let him know.
I’m quiet a worrier anyway and this is a job I want very much want so do I look at rescheduling it for when I’m officially off (I’ve checked it’s more expensive as most of the UK will be off that week, and I’ll have to factor in admin charges etc) there’s also the added issue of then having to keep my own children out of school for the week which I’ve never done before and don’t personally agree with.
Any advice would be gratefully received

The headteacher has said that you can have the annual leave. I would take it and then in future book holidays in school holidays. It’s something that you have already booked, you could have told them before but it’s an easy mistake to make. Academies do tend to have some different holiday dates but just double check in future.0

do I look at rescheduling it for when I’m officially off.
Is there something else that has been said? I'm reading it as you have been given the time off but you want to reschedule to your holidays anyway?
In which case I wonder why you even brought it their attention. If you were going to change it if they yes or no they didn't really need to be told.Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -
No nothing else has been said. I made them aware of the holiday a few days ago but I just feel guilty about having to ask for it! I don’t particularly want to reschedule the dates as it will push is financially, I just overthink things a lot!0

Stop overthinking.
This is quite common when a school employs someone who isn’t previously employed in a school and they have holiday booked already.

Yep, what jackieblack said.
There are two issues, and I'm not sure you've disentangled them in your mind.
1. This booked holiday. Absolutely not a problem, sounds as if the head has agreed it and off you go!
2. The other problem is the fact that your new academy has potentially different holidays from your kids' school holidays. This may happen again, and will need pre-planning. It is likely to be an additional cost in you working at your new job. However, I stress that because you've been upfront about this first term's problem holiday you have bought yourself time to think about this and plan. It was lucky you HAD paid for a holiday, in fact - the fact it's been agreed means you do have more time to plan ahead.Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0 -

First year of my job this happened. I think it happens to a lot of people. I had a holiday booked and my graduation which fell directly in work time. They had no problems with it.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
